Nostradamus and the 2010 Heat Wave

A scorching summer of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 reminds me a lot of another scorcher summer of oil spilling into the Gulf in 1979. That’s the last time a huge flood of crude blemished the Gulf of Mexico. The Itox Gulf oil rig explosion sent a gusher frothing oil over the surface from the continental shelf a few miles off the Yucatan Coast of Mexico. Except for the depth differences, the BP Deepwater gusher boiling up off the coast of Louisiana from a 5,000-foot depth, rather than 160 feet, these two spills share a lot in common. Both have taken many months to cap: Itox in ten months, Deepwater looks like it will take four. The former clogged the southern Gulf of Mexico with 3.5 million barrels of oil making it the third worst accidental oil spill in history; the latter so far has dumped 5 million barrels into the northern Gulf of Mexico and now stands as the worst accidental oil spill in history.

(By the way, Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, intentionally set off the greatest oil slick disaster in history during the Persian Gulf War of 1991 spilling over 10 million barrels into the Persian Gulf from oil tanker harbor pipelines detonated in Kuwait by his retreating Republican Guards. Though Deepwater’s oily sheen stretched for a time across an area the size of Pennsylvania from late April to early July, now in early August NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration) declares 75 percent of the goo is gone. “Absorbed” to be exact. The corporate media eats up this report like anaerobic ocean bacteria tucks in tar for tucker with little to no skeptical inquiry. Also the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) chases NOAA’s happy spill of spin with their own, that all the vertebrate fish and invertebrate shell fish swimming in that dispersant rich toxic mix of “absorbed” oil still raining down on oyster beds, crab and shrimp make these “safe” to eat. Big business must go on, it seems. Get those Gulf fisheries back on net line harvesting the ocean’s oily gilled and bivalved bounty. Get those people back to work before region-wide gulf state unemployment influences their votes for the mid-term elections.

Thank you dispersant toxins for sweeping the slick under the watery rug of the Gulf ocean surface. I wonder if short term profit and political gain might postpone a serious appraisal about just what impact on human health eating hydro-carbonated marine animals will have in the coming decade. Heck, American’ts postpone tackling the oncoming Debt Bomb, why not delay a serious investigation into the effects of the dispersants in what will be a crude dispersant pestilence upon human consumers?

We have a habit of not facing our toxic problems (social, economic and ecological). It reminds me of a consequential prophetic outcome written in Century 5 Quatrain 63 of Nostradamus’ history of the future, when he augured the following: “There will be several plagues upon mankind.” Many of these pestilences implied to be man-made.

This brings me back to another similarity between the oil spill summers of 1979 and 2010. Itox in 1979 and Deepwater in 2010 share summers remembered for their record-breaking and extended heat waves across the Gulf and Mississippi River states. Did both spills somehow have a toxic influence on water evaporation in the Gulf of Mexico that lead to very hot summers across the eastern two thirds of the North American continent? The historic hot summer of 2010 spikes much higher than the record swelter of 1979. The temperature rises in intensity parallel the increased size of the third and first worst accidental oil spills in history in a body of water from where much of the subtropical heat cast over North America comes.

Climate made famished for water evaporation by hydrocarbon steroids?

There has never been recorded such a wide-ranging and lingering triple-digit heat wave across the states of the American South and Mississippi Valley. NOAA predicted a hurricane season to rival the storms crowding 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi coast and broke the decrepit levies around New Orleans. The first week of August 2010 is nearly over with nary but one minor Hurricane Alex on the books. What has dried out the Caribbean and Gulf areas like 1979? Is it coincidence. Is it a fortunate spate of off shore wind sheer cutting down the strength of the “canes” before they are “able” to murder the Gulf with winds, storm surges and rains? Is it the Gulf waters, and a lot more?

The 1979 season, like the first two months of the current Hurricane Season of 2010 had only seen one weak hurricane (Bob for 1979; Alex for 2010) briefly visit the Gulf. Both in mid-July. Unlike July 2010, the Gulf in late July 1979 did experience a gully washer torrent of rain across the Texas coastline from tropical storm Claudette making it one of the most damaging tropical storms on record never to reach hurricane force; however, no other hurricane entered the Gulf until Hurricane Henry around 17 September 1979. Henry went down on the record books as was a rare example of a storm entering the Gulf of Mexico and dissipating without making landfall. Was an oily film from the Itox spill blocking the full evaporation feast of moisture it needed?

Is it a coincidence that the last time the Gulf had suffered a scab of an oily sheen in 1979 the weather patterns drew dry and record-breaking hot. Moreover, summer 2010 like 1979, is also a year enduring a strong though currently diminishing El Nino climate altering heat-up of the Eastern Pacific equatorial waters. Nevertheless, perhaps the collapsing El Nino in 2010 has enough strength left to quiet down the Atlantic Hurricane Season like 1979 and oil slicks have nothing to do with it.

A far larger oil slick in 2010, coincides with an equally and far wider ranging, triple-digit heat wave across the Mississippi Valley states all the way north to Minnesota. These and even the Atlantic seaboard states sweltered with mid-summer temperatures in the spring months of late April and May. Is it bad luck only that the Deepwater disaster started on 20 April? Does water evaporate properly when under the skim of hydrocarbons? Can a large portion of the northern Gulf laced with particulated hydrocarbons dispersed from the surface to ocean floor depths in vast oil cloud plumes not have some impact on the watery engine of atmospheric evaporation pumping subtropical moisture far into the temperate zone?

The fossil carbon farts of oil and coal make a Greenhouse Effect trapping the sun’s heat in the atmosphere reflecting the heat back to earth. Move from air to water, from heat trapped to heat reflected. Could carbon slurry in its pre-exhaust form in the ocean inhibit enough natural water evaporation under an viscous greenhouse rainbow sheen to render a subtle altering of weather patterns to a hotter degree? My rhetorical questions are not science. My intuition might be imaginary. Then again, perhaps the future climatologists will find some correlation.

What I’m pondering is not scientifically proven. Not yet. I wonder though how much mucking with the oceans can tip a slight degree of evaporation across a large enough water surface to slightly alter the rpm of the climate temperature engine running the motor slightly too hot.

From heat waves to fires we go…

There’s fire in the sky mentioned in a number of Nostradamus’ prophecies distressing a future time. A line of heat waves drawn over the map line of latitude 48 is the subject of Century 5 Quatrain 98:

A quarante huict degré climaterique,
A fin de Cancer si grande seicheresse:
Poisson en mer, fleuue, lac cuit hectique,
Bearn, Bigorre par feu ciel en destresse.

At a latitude of forty-eight degrees
At the end of Cancer (22 July) so great (is the) drought.
Fish in the sea, river and lake boiled hectic,
(Southwest France) in distress from fire in the sky.

I wrote the following interpretation 13 years ago for Nostradamus: The Complete Prophecies:

Nostradamus warns us against creating a future drought of biblical proportions that will burn a swath across latitude 48 in the Northern Hemisphere. Drawing a line across that latitude on a map, we touch on nearly all the world’s chief grain belts. Today’s amber oceans of wheat stretching across North America and the Soviet Ukraine revert to prairies and inhospitable steppes in the next century.

[Note the] quatrain Indexing Date: “Q98″ = 1998? In my last Nostradamus book [Nostradamus: the New Revelations, 1994] I correctly interpreted the increase in global warming after the mid-1990s when the dust from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo [1992] that slightly cooled the world had cleared the skies. With this interpretation in mind, we can expect a wave of global droughts and heat waves by July 1998. From that time onward global warming steadily kicks in, disrupting weather patterns and the climate conditions needed to grow grain, start to shift hundreds of miles north of where they are now.

The year 2010 visits upon Russia the worst drought, brush and forest fires in 130 years of recorded weather history. The Indian heat wave before the Monsoon came in June killed hundreds if not thousands across South Asia. The US had endured sustained and historic bouts of triple-digit heat waves east of the Rockies starting since mid-spring.

Yesterday, the Russian Federation announced that all exports of grain will cease due to the crop damage caused by 2010’s sustained spring and summer droughts. Flames devour Forest and brush fires have become Russian wheat field fires. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin banned all grain exports for the next 4.5 months so his country can at least feed itself.

Russia is the third largest exporter of grain on this hungry and overpopulated planet. Russian fields of desiccating grain lie mostly along Latitude 48.

The quatrain’s indexing “98″ bears a second look. In 2001, a United Nations commission on climate changes declared that the 1990s were the hottest years on record in the last millennium. Climate science reports the tropics are expanding nearly 600 miles into once temperate zones demarcated by the tropics of Cancer in the north and Capricorn in the southern hemisphere. The Science Times reported that temperatures in 1998 shattered global temperature records. Since the spike of heat in 1998, every year since then records a hotter mean temperature than all the years before 1998 and the year 2010 is poised to shatter heat records of the hottest year of them all — 1998!

Back in November of 2009, I forecast the following:

“Be prepared for cold and snow filled winters to suddenly shift into greatly warmed meltdown floods. Great torrential wets will presage land-mummifying droughts in Australia, and the interiors of all inhabited continents in 2010. The only constant theme threading through next year’s weather forecast: extreme.” (Predictions for 2010)

Nostradamus, Obama, Change We Can Believe In

A phrase written four and a half centuries ago by Nostradamus may lie dormant of specific significance until something in our times makes it resonate. In no way does that make fulfillment assured. It may only be yet another in thousands of examples of how each generation gives impetus to Nostradamus’ fame by projecting their collective interests upon his mostly cryptic and nebulous prophetic verses. When, therefore, the prophetic alarm bells ring as one combination of Nostradamus’ 36,000 words of prophecy seem to match, it is good to find a second clue or more in the verse to support one’s interpretation beyond the trap of projections.

First the object for today’s consideration is a verse indexed as quatrain 46 of Century 3 in Les Propheties of Michel de Nostradamus:

Le ciel (de Plancus la cité) nous presage,
Par clers insignes & par estoilles fixes:
Que de son change subit s’aproche l’aage,
Ne pour son bien ne pour ses malefices.

The sky (concerning Lyons) we presage,
Through clear signs and by fixed stars:
Suddenly the age of change approaches,
Neither for its good, nor for its evils.

Nostradamus begins his prophecy using a classical metaphor that may be more than meets the linguistic eye. The city of Plancus is modern-day Lyons, founded in 43 B.C.E. by Lucius Mutatius Plancus, a lieutenant of Julius Caesar, the Roman conqueror of Gaul. Upon the city coat-of-arms is a white lion in a red field. Lyon is an Old French spelling for lion or lion. The word can be used figuratively in French to describe a great celebrity (he is a lion of the arts, or politics, etc.). The city of Lyons could be an astrological code for the sign of a political celebrity born under the sign of Leo. Line 2 alludes to “clear signs by fixed stars.” Leo is a fixed sign rather than cardinal or mutable.

Nostradamus wants us to go down the astrological path of meaning here when he adds that suddenly the “age of change” approaches. Some astrologers believed the transit of Jupiter in Aquarius back in January 1997 signaled the beginning of the fixed-signed Aquarian Age. By January 1998, a gathering of planets Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune also entered the sign of Aquarius to give cosmic emphasis. In one interpretation the last line hints that the Aquarian Age will be a time of true religious revolution. It will advance from a Piscean-Age morality to the trans-morality of the Aquarian Age (neither for its good or evil). One is prompted to assume Lyons and the world at large in the next few hundred years may experience a quantum leap in consciousness that could be called the revolution of the middle way — in which the only evil is unconscious behavior, the only good — awareness.

Still, there is a more immediate interpretation. Suddenly an age of change did come with the world noting and marveling at the meteoric rise of African American Barack Obama to the US Presidency in 2008 under the slogan “Change we can believe in” or “Change has arrived!” President Obama is born under the sign of Leo the Lion and gained a leonine global celebrity that at times took on airs of messianic rock star appeal.

The day of celebration of his inauguration watched by over 1 billion people around the world on 20 January 2009 auspiciously recorded stars (planets) in fixed signs (Aquarius). The Sun had just entered Aquarius on that day. The Sun had joined Mercury (ruler of mind), Jupiter (ruler of expansion and openness) and Neptune (ruler of the spirit) in the sign of the new and revolutionary Aquarian Age.

A week or so into Obama’s new era Mars conjoined with Jupiter in Aquarius — an event in a fix sign described in another verse, Century 6 Quatrain 24, may point to Obama as the “new king anointed” a short time after a “calamitous war under Cancer.” Cancer is the Sun sign of his predecessor, G. W. Bush) implying the quagmires that had become Bush’s war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 6 Q24, Nostradamus gives us one destiny that 3 Q46 contradicts, implying that destiny is not assured but dependent on the right choices for change made by Obama and the American people. The former quatrain forecasts this new king will, “Bring peace to the earth for a long time.” The latter quatrain says change approaches that for Lyons’ (or Leo Obama’s) is neither good nor their evil.

Now, consider a couple of ways to take that. The age of change will impact elsewhere and not do much to alter the city of Plancus or by extension the nation of France. So, Obama may be big stuff for the rest of the world but for the people of Lyons and the Frankish lands he is, with a dismissive Gallic shrug, comme ci, comme ça.

The other interpretation of 3 Q46’s last line implicates a destiny Obama must avoid by moving beyond what is viewed now by growing numbers around the world 18 months into his first term as change that needs more than belief and talk but objective, decisive legislation. Otherwise, Mr. Obama could have heralded an age of change approaching that in the end is neither accomplishing much good or remembered for its evil. In other words, history will view Obama not as the man who brings peace on earth for a long time, but as a charming mediocrity that in history’s judgment did little more than talk a lot about an age of change that never got off the ground.

There is still time to witness which future Barack Obama seizes, the messianic or the mediocre.

Great Floods Predicted for 2010:

“The years 2010 through 2011 will see a spike in climate change never before experienced. There will be stronger earthquakes, typhoons, tornadoes and hurricanes, droughts and floods will make all that happened in the 2009 and its far more devastating predecessor, 2008, look tame in comparison.”

The Cumberland River visited downtown Nashville Tennessee with its own “Hurricane” Katrina” style inundation this May. Freak storms burst over Romania and the Ukraine flooding also the Danube River in what some in the Eastern European region called a hundred year flood. Oklahoma State has had TWO floods of the century this year. River systems across New England states and New York during the winter thaw had theirs. China has been slammed since mid July with violent rainstorms from two typhoons (Conson and Chanthu). The most recent bout of a flood of the century in late July caused operators of the Three-Gorges Dam to shut down some hydroelectric generators and open the sluice gates for fear of the largest dam in the world breaking under the torrent of the Yangtze. Just this week the worst monsoon deluge in living memory spread across Pakistan killing nearly 1,000 and displacing millions along the heavily populated Indus River Valley. Australia continues its decade-long 500-year drought. South France got a respite from theirs with an equally extreme and unexpected flash flood in June causing yet another flood of the century. The islands state of Hawaii is also under a 500-year drought. Just how many floods and droughts of the century or the half-millennium does the human race need to get it that Mother Nature is on the warpath because of our abuse? St John of Revelation was a Psycho

Somebody had to say it at last. James provided the flint to fire off my response:

Perhaps it is time to wipe the dust from that old family bible & see what God has in mind for the future of mankind since we have made such a mess of this world; and we have. John the revelator says he was ‘in spirit’ when he was shown a vision of man’s future while exiled on Patmos. Revelation 21 shows a whole new world that God will create at some future moment. I find that as something to look forward to.

The feeling or deep desire for a new start runs in many religious traditions. It is a prophetic will to power a house clean.

Roman Emperor Domitian exiled St. John the little Aegean Island of Patmos in A.D. 95. Holed up in his cave, John composed the most famous prophetic housecleaning (house-rub-outing) of the Earth. A fundamental question must be asked. What was St. John’s state of sanity when he wrote the Book of Revelation?

The last time someone tried to give John of Patmos a thorough psychological examination was in Apocalypse and the writings on Revelation by D. H. Lawrence. He penned this small book just before he died in Provence, France, of tuberculosis at the age of 44. I too share Lawrence’s view that much of John of Patmos’ macabre vision is coming from his suppressed frustrations at being exiled by Rome. I would add that his all-time end-time grump set to parchment arose from a scarred mind of someone with post-traumatic disorder. Who really knows? Maybe he was a survivor of the Roman sack and slaughter of Jerusalem in 69 C.E.

The message passed through a broken medium. The Hebrew Prophet Daniel’s end-time revelation in the Nevi’im is the language of a mystic. John’s second-rate and hyperbolic rehash of Daniel is written in the language of an angry mad man. Daniel’s book is psychic. John’s is Psychotic. Also, there are fundamental points in his narrative that clearly show he intended his prophecy for his own immediate future and not for our times. (See 666). So, if what I’m saying is true, then to summon up desire of God or anybody else to end this world is a mistake. It’s lust for ending life from one who gave up on the world.

It is an anti-life religious disorder overtaking its victims in two phases. I first described them in detail as Prophaganda (a desire to foresee the end of a world one does not understand or hates) followed by Armageddonomics (the economics of doom). Prophaganda is the hypnotic suggestion the mafia of priests and reverends use to condition believers to abuse and make the destruction of the world happen as a self-fulfilling prophecy. The usual habit is to put all that is wrong about the mess of the world on man not following God’s will. I think the future will see it differently. The blame is on God making a stupid world construct.

Why create duality?

Why create sin?

God is ultimately responsible for sin. He will have to punish us shirking our responsibilities but not punish Himself when he is the father of response-ability. He’s the creator. Thus, he has created all and everything, right? Before there was the word and God created heaven and earth, before all of that, was there any good or evil? Did God not also create these when he created the context of duality?

Back in 1980, before I left America to see India and meet Osho for the first time, I used to work at a head and occult supply shop in Ports of Call, San Pedro, California. The owner of the establishment, in my opinion, pandered to the cliché sensationalism of the occult by calling the establishment “The Prophet.” No picture of Kahil Gibran but a sign at the bottom of the stairway leading into the second floor shop with a stereotypical image of a black cat and a cauldron. If ever there was a rancid meat mirage to attract flies of evangelical attention, this sign did the trick. They came up our stairs daily to save us. The owner didn’t have to deal with them daily, but her employers did.

"For Madmen Only: Price of Admission, Your Mind" was my first read of Osho's one-on-one counseling of devotees. Pay with your mind sounds like brainwashing? I hope so. Since I read this book back in 1980 I've been trying to wash my brain each moment of all the identity, conditioning and crap society has put there with Osho's meditations. It's good to be clean.

For today’s blog, I recall two finely dressed male saviors who begged to remind me that Satan created sin in the world. I thought I’d try to test their theology with a question inspired by something I’d just read in For Madmen Only, my first book of Osho’s spiritually iconoclastic writings.

I said, “OK, I get it, Satan created sin but who created Satan?”

That question took them aback and one replied after thinking it over, saying, “God created Lucifer the angel who then decided to become ‘Satan.’ That was his free choice given by God to be evil rather than devote himself to God’s good.”

“Good,” I said. “Quite right. But who is responsible for creating Lucifer? Had Lucifer not been created, had God not given Lucifer the power to go astray… Golly, if God hadn’t even created the notion of ‘going astray’, would we have ‘Satan’ this evangel of ’sin’?”

The evangelical duo went silent. Neither could give me an answer.

I pressed my point, “The source of evil was Satan, who was Lucifer, who was created by God. Thus, God is ultimately responsible for evil, is he not?”

One of the two faith-fettered fellows to his credit saw the logic and had to say yes. They departed quickly from The Prophet with a desire to tell further biblical “tales” tucked between their legs.

Osho, formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. If something deep inside is stirred by looking into this face. If it reflects back to you a truth already nestled deep inside the being, once forgotten. Now remembered. There are meditations of Osho I would be happy to freely share with you. Thus if God is the creator of all, therefore even evil is his responsibility. He need not give people a choice to do good or evil. He could have just created a universe of bliss and peace.

Why did God create disharmony? The Bible in all its evolutions lead to the psychotic prophecies of St. John as its penultimate accomplishment. Even Steven King couldn’t “right” a more vengeful and censuring horror story about the ultimate criminal punishing his creations. Upon reflecting on St. John’s final psychotic book punctuating as last word the “good news” of the Bible, there’s only one revelation worth keeping. God couldn’t have channeled the bible. Men channeled it.

What they call “god” is just the message of their subconscious minds, trying to understand the miraculous mystery of divine existence. Men personified this mystery. They made God their ultimate imaginary friend, like children do. He’s bigger than life, just like a child’s immoderate worship of a hero. God judges his world, breaking his toys and creations just like a child having a temper tantrum.

It’s a new era. Time to stop being childish.

That is why Nietzsche was right to provoke the mindset of people by saying, “God is dead!”

Do you know the whole statement of Nietzsche? Here it is:

“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it? There has never been a greater deed; and whosoever shall be born after us — for the sake of this deed he shall be part of a higher history than all history hitherto.” (The Gay Science)

Humanity now is free of imaginary friends. Now we can be godliness itself, sharing divine freedom and the compassionate response-ability that goes on with divine freedom from our imaginary friends. That is our golden future. We are destined to recreate a “new heaven” of inner enlightenment and a “new earth” restored to ecological harmony.

Predictions for 2010

–Plus further predictions for the US Mid-Term Elections–

I documented the prediction (below) on 1 November 2009. It comes from the Chapter Finding your Groove of Greatness. Barack Obama does have the potential as well as the karma to be another Abraham Lincoln. Many of you might not believe it. Like Lincoln, he is making generally a mess of his first few years in office. Lincoln chose the wrong generals. Obama chooses the wrong economic advisors. Still there is progress, albeit a year late. Obama has advanced his Health Care Reform as I predicted he would, despite great resistance in the Congress. The reform is a work in progress. Congress has passed Obama’s Bank and Wall Street Reform. Like Health Care, these economic reforms will take many years of struggle and regeneration to mature. When I wrote the following, Obama was still enjoying an extended honeymoon with the American People. Here is its future foretold followed by today’s assessment:

“The honeymoon of change arriving without the luggage is over by the end of 2009. This perpetual arrival era of Obama’s presidency also ends. The promise of change must ripen into real change starting in 2010 and though Obama has not a civil war to fight [like Lincoln], he has to drag the status quo over the water, and end this tug of war match with real reform destroying the systemically dysfunctional culture of our body politic and body economic. The defeats in battles of bear market runs in Wall Street are waiting, but like Lincoln, Obama must revive the battle hymn of anti-trust laws, and responsible regulation and redouble the attack once more. Mine eyes have seen the monopolies destroying all the jobs. He must fight his battles not pitting blue against gray but a moderately liberal blue opposed to a new and radical red posing as conservative philosophy.”

Assessment
Rumblings of a Euro crisis over Greece overshadow Europe. A Tory led coalition in Britain leads a movement across the Euro-zone promoting austerity measures to bring down national debts. This is in direct conflict with Obama’s philosophy of spend now to stimulate economic growth, then pay down the debt later. Obama’s forward economic progress to recovery has hit an oil slick disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that may later goo up the newest economic bubble. Unemployment check payments are running out for millions. The Gulf’s fishing and tourist industries take a slick slamming. Obama’s mistake (as I foresee it) of a six-month deep drill moratorium slams the last Gulf industry standing. Millions more across a five state region are losing their jobs. A bear market and a new recession loom after the autumn leaves have fallen in 2010.

Sarah Palin goes Grizzly Adams Bear market on the President. She plays Obama’s change game with her own “yes we Ameri-can-ism” charismatic attacks on his administration. Palin is full of hyperbole and fury yet makes that fatal GOP mistake in the mid-terms pontificating that real solutions to our economic problems with a litany of Bushism dogma, such as cutting taxes stimulates growth.

“Where have these people been in the eight years of Sarah Palin’s G.W. Bush-whacking?” say the liberals.

A great leap backwards will not win the Republicans the House and the Senate in November. Beyond the potential pitchforking of incumbents and the potential for tearing the Washington establishment all down at the ballot, the mid-term elections can be a battle of progressively conservative versus progressively liberal ideas.

An extreme right-wing red colors much of the core Tea Party movement, even though many who flock to its mostly incoherent cause are members of what I’ve called in previous books and blogs the “Invisible Majority” of American voters grown disenchanted and feeling politically disenfranchised by the Democrat-Republican duopoly running the Federal and State governments.

These independent voters are not generally extremists but they are politically homeless. As the majority of Americans are a bit right of center in their politics it is understandable that many try out the Tea Party scene, or that they might chose to vote in Tea Party candidates as a kind of protest vote.

If I have read my oracle right the aggregate swing of votes will do more to dilute the Republican Brand than throw the Democrat bums out of House of Reps. and Washington DC homes. Successful primary Tea Party candidates like Rand Paul running for the US Senate seat in Kentucky bumped a mainstream Republican hopeful for the chance. However, like many a Tea Party candidate, his extreme views might alienate the moderate mainstream voters in November.

The Democrats may read the signs better than the Republicans this fall, and gain back momentum. Obama “has” revived a battle hymn of banking and Wall Street reform in 2010 that was missing in 2009. Talk of dismantling banking monopolies to shrink “banks too big to fail” into smaller banks is finding Obama’s political push now. He has also had to listen and learn from blue dog democrats what they demand in legislation to pass Health Care in March without a radicalizing Republican Caucus in Congress. Read more…

Nostradamus Octopus Oracle

You’ve been asking me for years. I hear it from publicists and publishers looking at me at first sight coming through the door. Television and radio hosts press me about it. My readers ask about it in emails by the hundreds over the years.

I look just like him, you all say. The face, the eyes, the presence. I guess it’s time to come clean. It’s time I make the public declaration you’ve all been waiting for. So, here it goes…

Who is the reincarnation of Nostradamus?

It is Paul.

Paul the Octopus.

This grand calamari of marvels lives in a fish tank in the Sea Life Aquarium in the city of Oberhausen, Germany. This entertainer of children was given a task to predict the fate and fortunes of the German soccer (football) team in the 2010 World Cup Championship held in stadiums deafened by a multitude of people with horns blasting a wasp-like razzing din in B-to-B flat monotones across South Africa.

At last we have found the great seer of Salon-en-Provence reborn. Paul the Octopusmus is Octadamus reincarnated.

Here’s the divinatory drill. A day or so before every scheduled game of the German team, our eight-tentacled oracle flows and flounces about his tank expectantly as the human handlers submerge two clear plastic containers into it. Each container bears a blue-black shelled mussel mollusk morsel — Paul’s favorite marine-life shelled-bivalve burrito. Each container also displays a plastic holder: one with a flag of Germany, the other with the opposing team for the ‘morrow’s match down in South Africa.

Paul roils and rolls his tentacles in contemplation, beak expectantly grinding. An augur’s gaze intent. He parachutes down to depth to alight upon the box of the winner, reaching in to “muscle” a meal as reporters beyond the aquarium flash and pan camera and prophesy about who will win the first match. Paul reached down and gobbled up the mussel in the tank displaying the black-yellow-red tricolor of Deutschland as the foretold winner against Team Australia.

The next day Germany muscled four goals to zilch from the Auzzies. A lucky break for the oracular octopus, they said.

For the next match meditated, Paul bobbled for mussel shell but this time it wasn’t in the German plastic box for game two. He curled suction cups around a bite of bivalve under the white, blue and red flag of Serbia. The next day red-jerseyed Milan Jovanovic, the Serbian soccer phenom, kicked ball and butt like he was redheaded Milla Jovovich in the movie Fifth Element, blasting a first-half strike at and over the German goalie, earning Serbia a 1-0 victory.

The next game was a must win for German soccer fans. Would the psychic calamari call the game in Deutschland’s favor, or would it be Ghana?

Paul passed an entranced suction cup over blue-black mussel shell under the Deutschland banner. Good Octi! Let us hope.

The next day, Germany edged Ghana 1-0 to win Group D and secure a showdown with England. Real people and the not-so-real personages of the press started to wonder sensationally. Was Paul a prophet? Or did his 2 and 1 picks in favor of Germany just show a mindless marine mollusk’s love of certain colors: the red and yellow colors of black-red-yellow German Bundesfarbe?

On the highly publicized and filmed theurgic session on the eve of Germany’s next Battle of Britain, hope ran high to what media of morsel might be munched in Paul’s prophetic mediumism.

Deutschland über alles! was the Pythia of the aquarium positing. Paul’s ichthyomancy presaged that Germany would beat Team England and the following day it did happen. Germany’s young Stukas of head sticks and kicks took all the spit and fire out of aging Engle-landers in a 4-1 sieg-hail victory.

Off to the Quarter Finals did Germany go, with Octopusmus’s prescience becoming an international discussion among footballer fans. Now the invertebrate inevitably passed a threshold where the law of averages and chance were becoming mathematically rarified. Paul curled his eight tentacles like a virtuoso pianist preparing for concert when clear plastic containers, mussel-baited, sank into his watery lair, one with Germany and the other with Argentina’s blue and white striped tricolor banners. Paul swooped down to beak-crunch the clam meat in Germania’s box.

The next day, Germany earned a semi-final spot in Wagnerian style, out-Valkyrie-riding the gauchos of football grass to a 4-0 win over Argentina at Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium.

Off to the Semi-Finals we go. Paul so far has picked every win and one loss for the German team. A skeptic would think that the flag colors of Germany play a greater role than augury in the gut feelings of the suckered octoploid prophet. Octopi love red and yellow, you know. So why would Paul pick the über-blue field and white starred Aussie farbe, with jack-little red in the Union Jack corner? Why go for a white English field snow blinding an Octopedic eye to its thin red cross when amber yellow and red revved the optical cones of our venerable invertebrate? What squid would blow an inkling of divination on the blue and white Argentinean standard? The soft yellow sun in the white center stripe was too anemic for an octopode peek into that box. Yes, Paul did tentacle a fluke in forecast when he once ignored familiar red and yellow for the Serbian tri-color, but hey, says the cynic, Serbian flags have a bright scarlet top stripe with a big golden crown. Red flag that, Nostradamus!

To which sympathetic Octodamians might retort: “Yes but the tricolor of Ghana has lots of red and yellow stripes over-topping the green.”

We really have a test to fortune tell beyond color biases. Germany’s next challenger, the last challenger in the way of a final contest for the world cup was Spain. You could say, in farbe-flagging lingo that Spain’s reds and amber, yellow, golds are bigger across the banner than the German flag, crammed as they are to contain that schwartz-black. Could bigger be better? Take note my devil fish of those two red stripes framing a broad amber-yellow center stripe with a Spanish coat-of-arms dominated by red tones. Ooooh, catch a calamari if you can, if color titillates the secret powers of an octopod I would bet that Paul muscle-cracks a mussel shell out of the Spaniard bannered box.

And he did!

Auch du lieber! Was ist dieser furschtbar Vorstellung! Cried greater Germany. Paul picked the Spanish, that shifty, salty schweinhund!

It never fails. Whether your prophet has two limbs or eight, a long beard of a calamari’s beak, when the prediction is a message you don’t want to hear, the habitual reaction is to kill the messenger.

Death threats were posted by pissed-off Aryan footballers at Paul’s Aquarian web site comments page. The Spanish Prime minister suggested Paul have security guards planted before his aquarium glass pane. Those less tempted to make a Teutonic spectacle out of themselves and gave less than a Götter-damn-erung about Germany’s oncoming fortunes playfully chanted at beer halls for a fried calamari appetizer ala “Paul.”

During the game, braukeller saturated crowds in beer joints with big TVs joined crowds in parks huddled before huge screens across Germany, broadcasting live the game, chanting for the Octopus’s flesh on a plate for his prophetic betrayal.

Call it color augury or a real revelation, Spain whipped Germany 1-0 and advanced for the first time to the World Cup Final game.

At that point, Paul the Octodamus obtained greater worldwide fame of forecasting than that of his previous incarnation, Nostradamus, as the undisputed king of prophets. Yet there would soon appear another critter putting one feather forward to claim attention — a pet parakeet of an Indian Astrologer residing in Singapore named Mani. His owner the star caster of fortunes called on cameras to document his bird of Bardo, green-feathered with envy about how a backboneless squid should shame avian augury. Before Mani lay two cards set face down hiding the flags of Spain and its contender for the World Cup trophy, the Netherlands.

Roll videotape!

Mani scratched out and lifted up a beak full of card displaying the orange, white and blue tricolor of the Orangemen of Holland.

What would Paul divine in his tank? Would orange attract his eye, or would he “Ole!” langoustine lust for more mussel under the red and amber yellow of Spain?

Yes, you skeptics might disparage Paul’s Spaniard pick. You sports casters that haven’t moved on to MSNBC anchor seats to hunt for O’Reilly might reject a boneless arm wrestle of clam meat coming from a critter that has no idea of soccer stats (no mind to have ideas, even) that make the brawny footballers of Team Netherlands a better bet than the plucky, diminutive Spaniards. Yet the next day came, with a rather ugly game of spike, kick, yellow-card-and-run collisions. It wasn’t pretty but it was Spain’s day. They won the World Cup 1-0!

Sorry Mani. The Singaporean parakeet was obviously a parroting prophet who tried to rob feeder to play Paul.

Call it a chance roll of the mussel shell to save face with those who clean his tank, but Paul’s final prophecy grabbed bait out of Germany’s flagged box for the Bronze championship game against the not so calamari captivating colors of Uruguay’s blue and white flag. There was the golden sun in the corner field, but to ink-dark Deutscher mollusk musky eyes — don’t cry for me Argentina.

Paul capped his journey into World Cup divination getting EVERY call correct, including Germany winning the Bronze match 3-2.

All I can say is, Nostradamus must have earned some good karma because he’s far more accurate this time around than last: 100 percent!

Nostra-Paul’s track record in world cup forecasts compared to mine is proof enough that I am not Nostradamus. When I was invited by History Channel in January to be their main event at the press conference in Mexico City launching The Nostradamus Effect (El Efecto Nostradamus) for the Hispanic and Latin American market, nearly every interview ended with one last all-important question. Each reporter flushed with embarrassment and offered a preamble of apologies, yet… Oh heck! Doomsday be damned! 2012 be shelved! Who was going to win the world cup?

I warned them that I was a crappy sports prophet. No mussels had been offered, yet I was hungry to at last get a sports prophecy right, so I was sucker enough to rub my black and mirror-like mussel shell for a sporting scry:

“Everyone knows it’s going to be Brazil…” I necromanced.

(Brazil lost to the Netherlands 2-1 in the quarterfinals.)

I’ve heard that Paul has retired from forecasting and is back to his window play with the kiddies. If people intend to place their bets on Paul for the next World Cup in 2014, it might have to be staked on his progeny for octopi do not become octogenarians, at least in human years. At two years old, Paul could have a long life left for a pampered eight-pedial mollusk. Perhaps long enough to pick a mussel out of a box either labeled “doomsday” or one labeled “bloomsday” for the year 2012. (The ancient Maya liked the color red, amber and gold as much as Paul, but their favorite colors were shades of blue to green turquoise.)

Pssst…put the blue turquoise in the “doomsday” clear plastic box.

Fulfilled Predictions for 2010

I signed off the following predictions eight months and two weeks ago on 1 November 2009:

Jobless Recovery foreseen and Obama administration upholding its illusions about it in 2010

“Here’s another reality descending into 2010 like the line on an unemployment graph. There will be an economic recovery — a jobless recovery. It arrives in part because the advice of Obama’s econ-team keeps his policies and initiatives stuck in the higher abstract conjecture of university dogma that believes jobs are the last thing to improve in an economic recovery. So he will go on into 2010, thinking for far too long that signs of jobless recovery are only the darkness before the dawn.

“This isn’t change. Don’t believe your PhD. pundits, Mr. President. Sooner in 2010 (I pray) or later on when the next crisis may lurch into focus by 2010’s end, Obama will face confronting an unsettling but necessary lack of trust in his economic advisors.”

Assessment
Washington, it’s not only the economy stupid, its jobs, stupid! Obama’s economic handlers play with the unemployment numbers and outright ignore the millions of people who have run out of unemployment benefits, who have given up looking for work and sit in their foreclosed homes letting time and frustrating inaction eat away all of their life savings.

But is Washington listening? We are told there is an improvement of the unemployment numbers, down from a high last year of 10.2 to 9.5. To get that number Obama’s handlers have to ignore millions of people lost to the job market. The real unemployment numbers nationally could be as high as 16 percent! Another 1.3 million will join them later this year.

This systemic lack of connecting the dots in Washington to real recovery requires we turn the usual rules or dogmas on their ears. Jobs come first! In Predictions for 2010 I describe in detail in several chapters how jobs for ordinary people can at once be stimulated by the right injections at the right times of public funds. What I foresee is an alternative future to the malaise-filled path those in Washington lazily tread.

Significant Reform of the Banks in 2010

“The essence of [Obama's] economic policies in 2009 were sourced from the ranks of Wall Street conciliari like Larry Summers and Geithner who once compromised and helped deregulate checks and balances controlling the greed of Banksters. That can’t bode well for 2010 bank reform.

“The real test of my above observations will be seen in the coming fight to pass the CFPA (Consumer Financial Protection Agency) into law. It is Obama’s proposed legislation for revamping consumer and financial regulation.

“Will it work?

“2010 will mark the beginning of a slow and often halting forward motion out of 30 years of economic and banking deregulation. The pendulum has begun to swing and though it seems hard to believe that government will reform and regulate business as it used to, the long-term progress of this era of Pluto’s transit through Capricorn (2008-2024) will bring a subconscious desire for control and reform to return.”

Assessment
Today, the Senate passed into law the most sweeping financial reforms since Ronald Reagan began applying a wrecking ball to regulations in the early 1980s. The pendulum has swung. For better or worse, we are entering an era of socially conscious government and industry or “socialism”. Some destinies cannot be avoided. Rather than resist this change, those in opposition to it must make social consciousness in banking, in business, in regulation work fairly for each American individual and not for special interests.

What now begins in Washington is what I called in the book the battle of the two Roosevelts. Do we reform our country like Republican Teddy Roosevelt or Democrat Franklin Roosevelt? Read more about it in Predictions for 2010.

A Quiet Atlantic Hurricane Season Continues.

“The 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season won’t throw wave after wave of tropical storms at the Gulf States and Florida like the year of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in 2005.”

Assessment
I have reprised part of this quote again from last month’s blog to emphasize a little prophetic “so far so good” news. We are six weeks into the North Atlantic Hurricane Season and only Hurricane Alex brushing through the western fringes of the Gulf of Mexico in late June becoming a moderate Category 2 Hurricane at landfall in Mexico. Alex was followed by a tropical depression almost in the same path a few weeks later. If this were the nasty Katrina-like 2005 hurricane season forecast by NOAA meteorologists, we should have seen four or five tropical storms by now. In the same period in 2005 the Gulf region was slammed by Tropical Storms Arlene, Bret, a Category 1 Hurricane Cindy, Category 4 Hurricane Dennis and Category 5 Hurricane Emily. I’m crossing my fingers that the storms won’t sprout up like dandelions in the drink in the near future and play havoc’s catch-up with us.

The Third Depression, from Greed to Green

Today (Tuesday, 29 June) the Dow Jones slid -268.22 points into the 9,000s (9870.30). It did so on reports of slumping growth in China (in part apparently caused by another computer error in hyper trading). There was the lingering effect of a low US consumer confidence report last week, a growing crisis in the Euro zone banking system punctuated this weekend by a pathetic performance of polarized leadership of the G20 in Toronto. The pundits are pussyfooting around commenting on an forthcoming report that 1.3 million American unemployed are about to lose their jobless benefits later this week. If no last minute inflationary spending is dolled up Obama-charm and doled out to postpone it, the surge of unemployment will re-cross the recession Rubicon of double digits at 10.5 percent.

Just as the world leaders of G20 were finishing up their ineffectual, photo-optical, solutions-optional junket weekend in Toronto, Nobel laureate economist Paul Krugman posted an op-ed for the New York Times, Sunday (27 June 2010) entitled The Third Depression. In brief, he argues that we are in the first stages of a long and jobless depression similar to that following the Great Panic of 1873, with years of lingering economic instability and monetary deflation, rather than the more catastrophic mass-unemployment model of the Great Depression of 1929-1933.

Depression of the first kind has its sudden collapse and recovery like what happened in 2008, but the stuffings of potential growth have been knocked out. Whole sectors of the market do not recover. The sectors pretty much vanished, like losing part of the brain in a stroke. Recovery from an econ-stroke may take decades to find new sectors, new synapses pathways to jobs, such as the painstaking development of new pathways through a brain recovering healthy function. The Long D. is post-stroke sluggish. The Short D. is like a heart attack that skips a beat and takes a dramatic depression-juiced “jump out of your Wall Street window to end it all” impulse.

The first D. is like a ship cast in the doldrums, the second D. an auto wreck. Krugman’s observations are less Tex Avery comically taxing than mine:

“We are now, I fear, in the early stages of a third depression,” writes Krugman. “It will probably look more like the Long Depression than the much more severe Great Depression. But the cost to the world economy and, above all, to the millions of lives blighted by the absence of jobs will nonetheless be immense.”

America’s administration comes out of the G20 gathering seeking to spend its way out of economic problems whilst Euro-spooked Europeans and other economic powers endorse the other extreme: austerity cuts to whittle down a mountain of international debt should begin now, not later.

There is a failure of leadership in the early summer of 2010 that in my opinion sets the course for the economic crisis in October 2010, about which I have spent two years forewarning you all. I wrote the following prophecy in December 2007, published in mid-January 2008:

“There will be one nasty recession in 2008 the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the early 1970s… Deep recession is definitely going to happen whether there’s war or peace with Iran. There will be inflation, stag-flation, and gag-flation for those industries that don’t come along for the rise of the green economy when the value of the US greenback falls… The dollar will begin its slow and stately 36-year decline as the world currency…” (Predictions for 2008)

Around the time I released the above passage I appeared on a number of radio shows expanding the theme:

“I’m on record telling George Noory on Coast-to-Coast AM and later Whitley Strieber on his podcasted radio show Dreamland in late January 2008 that this recession was a probation period lasting two years. If in that time the economy’s core ills were properly understood and remedied, we would cautiously rise out of financial crisis. If not, then the hammer of catastrophic depression would fall. (Predictions for 2009)”

In a passage signed off in mid-January 2009 concerning the year 2010 I said:

“Prophecy’s koan about the economy in 2009 is this: our global economy is on probation for two years and the judgment is still out if it will survive. Whether we will reboot our economy in two years or less or be subjected to its meltdown in a catastrophic global depression in October 2010 or the spring of 2011 is up to acts initiated by us right now in the now. From past to future foolishness we are habitually tempted to skip over the core problem sitting in the present waiting for our past-future distracted attention. (Predicitons for 2009)”

Which brings us to what I wrote in October 2008 about the economy’s future crisis for Predictions for 2010:

“Wall Street was saved by the first stimulus in 2009, but no serious credit was lent to the real economy. Though 2009 will end with an Obama spin of the slow wheels of bureaucracy and legislation it is too slow and too gestured rather than a thrust substantive to modify or avoid the next great financial crisis unexpectedly exploding on the world around a year from the time of this writing (27 October 2009)…

“An important opportunity has been missed in 2009 by this US president and Congress to instigate real regulative reforms to the banking, real estate and stock market sectors. Any effort in Washington DC to pass real economic reform in 2010 will at best be stifled in new laws, defanged, written by special interests to ultimately water down and muddle two absolutes required for success in 2010: raise taxes, while cutting expenditures. This isn’t a Right or Left wing issue. This is a reality 2010 will see argued, tossed around and compromised, wasting another precious year to partisan posturing for the mid-term elections coming in November.”

The push-and-pull of Uranus (change) verses Saturn (anti-change) in the great global financial debate in this and the coming month of July will leave legislators the world over polarized in two camps: 1.) Spend our way out of recession to stimulate the global economy and damn the deficit; or, 2.) Face the global deficit now, slice the government sector and raise taxes to pay the deficit down before the economic time bomb of the deficit explodes.

Which is the right approach?

My “oracle” says, neither.

The solution is somewhere in the middle. It requires a virtuoso balancing performance of leadership saddled to an engaged citizenry. First upon everyone’s agenda: cut waste while artificially stimulating for a short time that which puts getting people back to work first.

My annual almanac prediction books not only predict the future but also describe potential futures we could activate by our present day actions. In Predictions for 2010, my oracle helped compose whole chapters providing my readers — who also include important and influential leaders of business and members of governments around the world — chapter long messages about alternative and positive future solutions to our problems.

The book foresaw the jobless recovery, but it did not stop there. Several chapters of detailed, systematic solutions flooded out of my keyboard in what became the fastest production of any book I have written: seven weeks.

It saw Health Care passing and more followed: a full chapter on food reform launched by a famous prediction offered by George Gurdjieff in 1924. He was a strong prophetic advocate for the future of America with one caveat. The process of America’s destruction would come from the collective misuse of its stomach (i.e. junk food) and sex.

The prophetic eye of oracle for 2010 delivered a long, stinging augury about a US quagmire in Afghanistan, chasing it with an even longer prophetic editorial on the Pentagon and the US Military Industrial Complex at a existential crossroad. A relevant future for the USMICX requires a shift in thinking not seen since the beginning of the Cold War in the late 1940s. It must metamorphose like the Roman Legions did to stay relevant once large scale wars vanished for two centuries during the Pax Romana.

I think of what the oracle said, while today I watch General Petraeus work hard at playing the change maker who says nothing change-worthy for US fortunes in Afghanistan as he sat before a congressional hearing that will grant him permission to run the War in Afghanistan on the ground. (Into the ground?)

We are halfway through 2010. Nature’s war against human abuse of the ecosystem magnifies. Leadership in an economic crisis polarizes and falters. Will the third depression in 137 years come to a head this autumn? The book I wrote to forecast this year’s events had more to say about better futures yet un-accessed but immediately available to us than it did running the more familiar account of the sum total of our stupid decisions making a mess of destiny. Whatever I am tapping into is sending more than a message of doom and gloom, but oracular opportunity. Such positive destinies are born in the passing before your eyes of a word, by the seeding before your witnessing consciousness of a field of mind sparking off an inspiration. A grove of solutions can be planted, and a harvest of better futures furrowed can come from the seedpod, opened, called Predictions for 2010.

Krugman thinks we are heading for the Long Depression. I am thinking that we can alter that course, even now; or, October might present us with Krugman’s Long Depression variety that by 2011 could jump out the Wall Street window, but not because of economics. For 20 years in the predicting field, I have logged this cautionary vision in the hope it will be heeded, as it still can, in time. Back in January 2008, I said:

“Mark me clearly… No man made effort will undermine the econ-artist game. If it collapses suddenly in 2008 or 2012, it will be from forces outside of human control. I have always warned that it is not the economy stupid but the ecology stupid that will break the world’s economies. Ecological disasters and climate change are the real creditors that will call humanity’s economic game off on account of rain, rising oceans, central continental droughts, famines, and so on. (Predictions for 2008)”

Put those puppet-parroting characters down and have your hands free for something better. Meditation is like sharp perception that cuts the puppet strings to our puppet masters. Go throw those programmed poses, Pinocchio, and really become a real boy, not a wooden ego.

Iran, Eclipses and Predictions for 2010

Sometimes when I explore Debka.com, their articles read like this satirical photoshop-altered picture (above, right) of five practice-Iranian missile launches morphed into a chaotic swarm.

A lunar eclipse today in the sign of Capricorn cavorted with a squared gathering of planets Uranus conjoined with Jupiter in Aries. Saturn, not far off in final degrees of earthy, wakey-quakey Virgo might tremble the world a bit on its way to oppose Uranus and Jupiter under next month’s grand T square of Pluto in Capricorn. It is not surprising therefore that a major earthquake hit the world on this Full Moon time: a 7.1 magnitude to be exact, in the Solomon Island region.

The more likely portend of a massive quake somewhere along the vulnerable spots I mentioned in a recent blog (see earthquakes) will come a full moon month away from now. Prepare yourself in seismic regions with large human populations a week before and a few weeks after the Full Moon in Aquarius on 26 July 2010. Around that time, Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Aries is retreating in the first degrees of retrograde, thus sharpening the magnification of its exact opposition with Saturn in Libra over which Pluto in Capricorn — and also retrograde — grandly squares through early August. If seismic activity should rock and tsunami wave roll our world or burst a volcanic gush of lava, or of oil, or send sneak Semite sorties to blast Persian reactors, this would be the astrologically sensitive time.

I do not predict Israel will attack Iran this summer. I hold to that despite sensational reports emanating from URLs that over time have proven themselves mouthpieces for the psyops of US, al-Qaeda and Israeli intelligence. Chief among these web sites is Debka.com.

I rate web intelligence sources carefully over many years, checking their reports with objective outcomes. Debka.com consistently takes real intel, that I can track mostly to Mossad, Israel’s CIA, and purposefully draws exaggerated conclusions. One of the best boondoggles of the last decade from Debka was a report that divisions of Chinese soldiers took part in helping the Afghani Northern Alliance fight the Taliban in late 2001. The Chinese may have shipped some weapons over their mountainous and narrow border with Afghanistan but not tens of thousands of troops.

Another more topical case in point of real facts being blown out of proportion is what Debka has fomented in the past week. It is true that US and Israeli Special Forces have personnel monitoring Iran in Azerbaijan along its southern border with Iran. It is also true that units of the Iranian armed forces and those belonging to the independent military wing of the (IRGC) Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have moved up to the border with Azerbaijan. The Debka assessment is at the very least geared to scare the Iranians and many of my readers into believing “a state of war” exists on Iran’s northern border. If the phrase matched fact that would imply a large US and Israeli armed force with boots on the ground, tank turrets on the swivel and bomber jets on the drop are bombing Bam to Teheran from Baku air bases.

There is no state of war. A state of war means combat and a US-Israeli land invasion, air forces blasting and scattering IRGC units. If Israel and the US had suddenly infiltrated massive forces in Azerbaijan they did so out of a Debka computer keyboard. Now to the facts. A burgeoning alliance between the US and Israel with the former oil-rich Soviet Republic on the Caspian Sea has been developing for years. US and Israeli Special Forces use modest bases in Azerbaijan to arm and train Iranian Azerbaijani secessionists. US and Israeli commandos have even directly infiltrated the northern Iranian border since 2005.

The Bush administration began what the Obama administration continues: a low key, cold war style, US-Israeli shadow war with Iran. They do this in response to Iran’s war with surrogates waged against US forces occupying Iraq. Iranian IRGC advisers and special commandos armed and trained Hezbullah’s rocket units in Lebanon up to and during their rocket barrage war in 2006. Iran provided advice and weapons to Hamas in the Gaza Strip more recently in its rocket war against Israel in late 2008 through early 2009.

The US and Israel have used Azerbaijan to aid Azeri separatist. The US infiltrates Iran’s eastern borders with Afghanistan to incite the same aspirations for rebellion in Iranian Baluchi populations. For more information about this shadowy war, see Nostradamus war with Iran.

Debka in this week’s state-of-war articles will not remind you of this ongoing shadow war in their fit of hyperbole as facts. They do not moderate their language with the Azeri government’s official line that no invasions or air attacks will be allowed from their airspace. Debka will spin for all its worth two little Israeli vessels flying flag with the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Force now approaching Iranian waters. They will not remind you that a big show of US carrier fleets parading up and down the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz happens regularly since 2006. It is done so to rattle the nerves of Iranian’s Revolutionary regime and show how powerless and isolated it is and will be if it keeps going down the path to build nuclear weapons.

Debka will not moderate their exited conclusions with a well-known fact that two US presidents have menaced Iran’s borders and waters for political reasons four years and counting with upwards of sometimes three carrier strike groups patrolling at one time off Iranian waters along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The Iranians usually counter this show with their own naval, air and land forces maneuvers and threats.

Anyone who lived through the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union can recognize a smaller scale replay in the Middle East of what had been decades of surrogate conflicts military menace and shows of phallic missile prowess between Commie and Capitalist superpowers. It is a dangerous game being played to the hilt by Israel and the US against the Ayatollah Regime of Iran in a regional Cold War waged since 2005.

That does not mean there is no war coming. That does not mean that one side is egging the other to fall into the trap of starting a military incident that could make this smoldering Cold Iran-Israeli-US War flare suddenly hot. What Debka and the Mossad will not tell you is that all of this military show and signs of potential menace is meant to scare Iran to the talks table and accelerate efforts to raise international sanctions against it. The menace of potential war is meant to put the fear in Iran’s friends, Russia and China, to pressure Ahmadinejad’s government in Teheran to make concessions and dial back progress in suspected nuclear aspirations hiding behind a mask of a civilian nuclear program.

The hotter heads of Debka and Mossad would like to propagate sensational conclusions as bait to trip a trap — an Iranian misstep — an incident that could trigger a war and a rapid Israeli air strike. This is not the first time both sides sought and got a few shots fired across the bow of the other. In December 2007 US naval forces fired on Iranian patrol boats in the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli and American administrations past and present might seek to push Iranian forces into an incident this summer, but the Iranians are too clever to take the bait. There will not be an Israeli air strike on Iran. There will not be a US-Israeli invasion of Iran via Azerbaijan.

Assessment
Do you remember how impossible that sounded at the end of 2009? Health Care reform was stymied in Congress, and presumed dead on arrival to the Senate. Yet it did pass into law in the latter half of March 2010.

A Hyper trade glitch in Wall Street Computers

“Main Street’s woes aren’t Wall Street’s concern. The Dow will rise like a soap bubble in 2010 and the great blow job trading will increase its wind speed through the power of greed harnessing the information revolution until the volume of trading at a clip of 186,000 miles-per-second means liquidity can’t catch up leading to the next Wall Street meltdown by the end of the year.”

Assessment
A trading computer glitch on 7 May 2010 caused a 980-point crash because someone or some electronic “thing” typed in billion rather than million into the super fast hyper stream of data. It was the single worst single-day market plunge in history. Could this be a prelude to yet another “tilt” in light-speed trading in October?

New Era of Lone Wolf Jihadist Terrorists hit the American Homeland

“At the time of this writing (27-28 October), 2009 has a few months left. It may yet witness terrorist attacks in America adopting the new strategy of lone wolf, indigenous jihadists using homemade IEDs and store bought guns to shoot up subways and malls.”

Assessment
In the month that followed writing the above, US Army Major Nidal Hasan killed and wounded over 32 soldiers while on a shooting rampage in Fort Hood Texas after seeing the jihadist light. On Christmas Day 2009, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab better known as the underpants bomber, tried unsuccessfully to light off explosives in his undershorts to bring down Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on landing approach into Detroit. On a humid and hot May Day 2010, Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad parked his car bomb in the heart of Times Square. Fortunately the bomb malfunctioned. Recently, while under interrogation the Pakistani expat threatened that many more domestic attacks were coming from lone loon US jihadists.

Challenges to our common future are happening faster in 2010 than mainstream politicians and the so-called experts predicted

“Everything will range sooner than we expect. If there’s anything constant about the new year 2010, it is this unexpected revelation. Time estimates postponing the critical mass advent of economically inflated, resource exhausted, energy or climate tripping unsustainability foundered, will disquietly shorten in 2010. Hopes for a decade to dither on are as inflated and valueless as the dollar may soon become.”

Assessment
The US debt bomb, the PIIGGS Euro Problem, a housing bubble in China, an uptick in violent climate change induced weather bringing estimates of climate tipping points forward. This already is the theme of 2010 in its first half. And the Hurricane Season in a Gulf of Mexico awash in oil slicks is just around the corner. Prepare for the oily tropical storm surges blanketing the gulf coasts miles inshore.

A Quiet Atlantic Hurricane Season?

“The 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season won’t throw wave after wave of tropical storms at the Gulf States and Florida like the year of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in 2005. The quality if not the quantity of hurricanes will visit upon America the kind of devastation not seen since Hurricane Andrew just missed flattening Miami on its storm track over Homestead Florida in 1992.”

So far, in the first month the season is quiet in the Gulf of Mexico. We have a long way to go and the first tropical storm (Alex) has appeared east southeast of the Mexican Caribbean coast. It may pass into the Gulf over the Yucatan peninsula; however it appears that it will veer to the northwest, far away from the oil spill.

What will the average price of oil by the barrel be in 2010?

“Some business forecasters expect a rise above $100-a-barrel price in 2010. The safe bet is around $58 a barrel according to the Energy Information Administration. I foresee an aggregate average of around $74 a barrel inching to triple digits in the latter half of 2010.”

Assessment
The average price in first half of 2020 was around $74, but will triple-digit oil be next?

Uranus in Aries: Change or Chaos?

Uranus.

Friends,
Cosmic influences take their leisurely, eternal time in a universe that is 13.5 billion years old after God or an indescribable “godliness” Big Banged a dark and unfathomable beauty called “existence” who then instantaneously gave birth to all and everything. Astronomers since then try to unlock the mystery of cosmic forces and phenomena with the prose of fact and objective science. Astrologers play their part as cosmic poets trying to grasp the subjective mythos in a language using planets and stars as subject and their aspects transiting constellations as predicate.

Life is also poetry. Astronomers measure cosmic facts, astrologers “meter” out an understanding of cosmic influence on us. Even a cop will tell you that when a full moon is afoot people act stranger than normal. Mystics recount that more people, such as Buddha, become enlightened on a full moon night than at any other time. What is released or induced by other more distant heavenly bodies is far subtler, so claim the astrologers.

Since 2008, we have experienced a number of instances where a collective desire for change has hit an often-intractable wall of status quo. An African American for the first time became president of the United States waxing messianic about change having come. Yet Barack Obama’s presidency tested in reality beyond seductive fantasy has often collided will immovable fact in the first year and four months of his presidency. Many of his ambitious pledges of change have not happened and those that have, such as Health Care Reform passed successfully through the legislative process mutilated to no one’s complete satisfaction. Once in office, promised immigration reform was postponed for a year. Banking reform too. Much talk of change but little “do” has happened in the face of a lot of “do nots” assembled in opposition. Now it seems the forces of change are swinging in all directions without a coherent course to take. The pitchfork primaries wildly throw out good incumbents with the bad simply because they are incumbents. A third party movement I have long forecast coming is currently a grab bag chaos wherein everybody bellows and protests their own agenda. The Tea Party movement is the first whining baby spanked at birth. Today an incoherent political catharsis may later gain focus and maturity. Perhaps…

Astronomers will simply take note of several oppositions of the planet Saturn with Uranus as mere occurrences. The astrologer will use these oppositions to explain all the above gridlock and confounded hopes of change as being directly influenced by Saturn (the status quo and ruler of reality checks) in a tug of war with Uranus (ruler of the new Aquarian age and ruler of revolutionary change and chaos). In short, the past is in gridlock with the future.

The first two times these planets pulled in opposition happened the night Barack Obama won his election in November 2008 and again on Inauguration Day when he officially became the president of the United States. The bottom line in layman’s terms is this: Obama’s first term in office has and will continue to be defined by this grappling cosmic scrum of a Saturn-Uranus opposition. Change promised will be hard to earn because the forces of “past think” will try sabotage.

Back in 2007 when I posted Obama Nation a year before Obama even ran for office, I predicted though his destiny to become a president was certain if he should push impatiently to become one in 2008 he would arrive too soon to that destiny without prerequisite maturity and experience.

Oh what an avalanche of angry emails did that prophecy spawn from Obama supporters throughout 2008. Yet, since then I have taken note 16 months into Obama’s presidency that the silence from those quarters is now deafening. I hold the hope that your champion of messianic change will take the rest of his Saturn-Uranus deadlocked presidential term to mature and perhaps live up to his ambitions in a second term.

Yes, Obama will have a second term in office. Now all of you on the right can send your angry letters my way and I will patiently wait for the deafening silence from that quarter coming after the November elections of 2012.

One of the reasons why Obama will survive the end of his political honeymoon with the American people into a second term starts in a few days from the time of this writing. Uranus passes into the sign of Aries on 27-28 May 2010, depending on which side of longitudinal GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) you live on. The ruler of “Change” meets the “Sign” of “new beginnings and new enterprise.” Following this the Saturn-Uranus opposition will return only this time it will move out of the mutable (read politically wishy-washy and unfocused) signs of Virgo and politically foggy-fishy Pisces into Cardinal (leadership) signs. First with Uranus in Aries, then a little later Saturn enters Libra (the balancer) in June.

Obama should see some slight improvement in passing his change agenda from now deep into July. Then the exact opposition clicks in again with Saturn and Uranus both in 0 degrees of Libra and Aries respectively. Uranus at that time will be moving backwards in retrograde. That means change will once again be effectively stalled. Retrogrades also represent times when we need to review our systemic faults. Since Uranus is in retrograde that means Obama and all those embarked on changing the world for better — whether that change is engaged individually as political, social or spiritually inward change — must “go back to the drawing board” as it were. Each of us must become aware of fundamental structural flaws in our change agenda, expose these hidden illusions so we can transcend their impairment of soul-given genius and make our dream of a better world a success.

Saturn.

Saturn in Libra during the upcoming months will exert its other practical influences: not only status quo intransigence but also Saturn’s other astrological dominion: the realm of reality checks. Real revolution will not be found in the world of human beings by lunging reactively to Uranian extremes. Saturn will stubbornly keep reminding us: React-illusion is not real Revolution. Change for its own sake does not always equate to good.

Case in point, the last time Uranus transited Aries (1928-1934) was also a time of economic, social upheaval and revolutionary change. The Great Depression was a monster child of that transit as was US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s positive and peaceful Jeffersonian revolution of the New Deal in America, which included successful bank reform and social security for all Americans. Change equating to good. However, 1928 through 1934 also brought the world revolutionary change in the Soviet Union, which miraculously caught up with other industrial giants in a few short years at a dreadful cost in lives enslaved and lost. The forced collective farm system generated starvation that carried off 3 to 7 million Ukrainians in 1932-33. Privatization was also pretty much liquidated in other sectors. Those who stood against Communist changes were shot or sent to concentration camps in Siberia or pressed into chain gangs to build the vast canal system to the White Sea or the huge Dnieper River hydroelectric dams.

The last Uranus in Aries transit had New Deals and people 'dealt with' for the sake of change, such as millions dying of starvation from Soviet collectivization.

Change in America’s Uranus-in-Aries inspired New Deal put the nation back to work on public projects whereas it put the lash of change against the emaciated backs of millions of slave laborers in the Soviet Union. Change arrived with great force and it was breathtaking! An agrarian, illiterate, backward society became in the few short years of the Uranus-Aries transit a literate, modern industrial giant often at the cost of snuffing the breath out of millions.

The last Uranus-in-Aries transit brought incredible change to Germany too. In those days many around the world initially believed it was good change. It ended economic chaos. It silenced social upheaval and riots in the streets between extreme left and right wing gangs. It brought back employment, ended famines and restored law, order and peace. The people supported its leader who did more than promise change. He gave it to them. They had food; restored national pride and jobs.

This successful German revolution went mainstream politically just a few months after Uranus began its several-year transit through Aries in January 1928. From May 1928 through 1933, the movement kept winning more seats in national elections, swelling their numbers in the German Reichstag (parliament) becoming the largest minority. This gave their leader the power to form a coalition government placing himself as head of state on 30 January 1933. In the final days of Uranus transiting Aries, the Chancellor of Germany passed the Reichstag Fire Decree and the Enabling Act. He abolished opposition parties and became Fuehrer of Germany.

The Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler with the help of Uranus in Aries brought to the German people “change” they could believe in.

Be mindful of this. What is good about change must be anchored in consciousness and love. Revolutionary times like the one we are entering do bring positive objective changes as much as they do mass mob movements. Uranus rules change. It also rules chaos. Aries is the ruler of new beginnings, but Aries also rules mad, hot tempered and ill-thought out rushes into war, hysteria and mass insanity.

Uranus will only dip into Aries briefly through the summer months of 2010. Then it will return to Aries in March 2011. It will finally leave Aries eight years later in March of 2019. We will finish this summer with a taste of what will astrologically define the decade of the 2010s: a decade of upheaval, the writing of many systemic problems and fossilized ways of fixing them on the wall for changes good and evil.

React-illusions woven into the fabric of revolution are coming in all levels of life. Each individual must learn a way of awareness that distinguishes between the two. Nostradamus, it’s Raining Animals–Part 1

Up here in the Pacific Northwest, it is raining cats and dogs. It could literally rain cats and dogs next. Members of my blog community share with us a rain of starlings crashing into the English country town of Coxley, Somerset yesterday. A school of spangled perch pummeled a dusty Australian desert town back on 28 February. Spooky donut shaped clouds concerned people from Mexico to Moscow. Though popular curiosity is fixated on what the heck is causing birds to splat and fish to fly rather than fry, the prophets through history cast objective explanations aside and viewed these weird advents from the sky as messages from the heavens. (Sort of like Chicken Little.)

Many seers, including Nostradamus, were practitioners of Astromancy; a forerunner of Astrology sourced to the Chaldean and Babylonian divination techniques Nostradamus adopted from reading Fusino’s Latin translation of Mysteriis Aegyptorium, a grimoire of secret magical rites of divination by 2nd century neo-Platonist, Iamblicus. Astromancy was primal astrology without the horoscopes and mathematics that came later. In short, a diviner watched the movements of the stars and planets as godly messengers.

A subsidiary of this study comes into use when the gods in the sky must be crazy, throwing shooting stars, comets and even tossing a few animals on our heads. The divine art of Meteormancy to the rescue. The soothsayer can apply it to perhaps augur the meaning of fish puddles and bouncing birdie hail showers. The Roman augurs sought messages about the future in portents of eclipses, thunder and lightning, falling stars (and falling starlings). The latter portent required seers forsooth their knowledge of Ornithomancy — messages from higher planes sent through the behavior of birds. (Sort of like divining the future in the pattern of bird poop on your freshly washed car.)

“Watch the birdies” like Roman diviners popularly did and see what messages from the Gods they squawk, flock and pinion-point, for it was believed birds aloft in the sky were closer to the Gods than humus hominid you and me. Zeus’ eagles, Wotans raben, Odin’s ravens, they might be aware of divine intentions as feathered flies on the walls of Olympus or Valhalla. What then was the message from the Gods rendered in twisted beak-broken back-busted starlings in Coxley?

Animal welfare experts in England are puzzled by the deaths of 75 starlings which apparently fell out of the sky and smashed into the ground.

The birds were found on the driveway of a home in Coxley, Somerset, with broken beaks, legs and wings as well as abdominal injuries.

RSPCA workers have begun investigating how the birds died but do not believe they were ill or poisoned before they fell from the sky. Six of the birds were still alive when they were found but had to be euthanased because their injuries were too severe.

“It was a remarkable sight, I’ve never seen anything like it,” animal welfare officer Alison Sparkes told the BBC.

“Onlookers said they heard a whooshing sound and then the birds just hit the ground.

“They had fallen on to the ground in quite a small area, about 12ft (3.6m) in diameter.

“They appeared to be in good condition other than injuries that they appear to have suffered when they hit they ground.

“Our best guess is that this happened because the starlings were trying to escape a predator such as a sparrow hawk and ended up crash landing.”

The mystery about what happened to the birds is just as puzzling as what caused the deaths of thousands of crows, pigeons, wattles and honeyeaters which fell out of the sky in Esperance, Western Australia in 2007. A few weeks later, dozens of grackles, sparrows and pigeons also dropped dead on the other side of the world in Austin, Texas.

The RSPCA believes it is possible that the birds found in England could have been chased by a predator but when they tried to swoop to escape, they flew too low and hit the ground.

The owner of the home where the dead birds were found, Julie Knight, described finding the creatures as “absolutely terrifying”.

“It was like something out of a horror film, like Hitchcock’s The Birds, ” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“The sky was raining starlings. One of my neighbors saw them. They seemed to just fall out of the sky.

“The only way to describe what they looked like is that they seemed to have had a fright and were petrified.

All seriousness and Nostradamian hyperbole aside, there is something going on with the natural world. It is getting increasingly unnatural. I am putting final touches to a blog planned for posting on or just after the Ides of March (15th). It will look at the uptick of natural disasters and wild weather we have already seen in the first 2.5 months of the new year. Yesterday (24 January 2010) saw History Channel’s highly popular 12-episode series “The Nostradamus Effect” released across Mexico and Latin America in Portuguese and Spanish to a television market of 100 million people. The opening episode dealt with purported prophecies of doom from Leonardo Da Vinci. Next week (31 January) in one of four episodes in which I appear prominently the series will cover Nostradamus’ Third Antichrist prophecies. (For further information, see ¿El Tercer Anticristo?)

In early December, a few days after releasing my 16th book (and sixth eBook) Predictions for 2010, I received an invitation from History Channel to represent the series in their publicity campaign for Latin America. I felt honored being only one chosen from the series’ assembly of good prophetic scholars (and the unavoidable inclusion of a few popular and charismatic quacks spouting 2012 hysteria) to speak for the series in a press conference held in Mexico City. I was told History execs admired my balanced approach to controversial prophetic subjects.

For the record, I’m sure some of you would disagree with their assessment and think me a pontificator. At least I will do you all a favor and supply what I wish my colleagues and competitors on these Nostradamus/prophecy shows would qualify. None of us can really call ourselves the unquestioned messengers of long dead prophets who, if raised from the dead, Nostradamus and all, might pick their own bones of contention and throw them at our heads for what we “declare” was meant in their prophecies.

Your own intelligence, I hope, spares us the need to proffer redundant reminders that we scholars are offering our opinion — even when it seems many of my colleagues believe otherwise and think their utterances are gospel. Just know that when anyone asks me what Nostradamus said my answer is the same I gave to 18 journalists from across Mexico and Latin America in the conference pictured above.

What does Nostradamus say?

He says nothing for a very long time.

He’s been dead for nearly 450 years. I’m the one making statements here and they should be measured for their efficacy or fault upon the merits or merda of my intuition and scholarship by the test of time.

I flew into Mexico City for the first time a fortnight ago. Being a native Southern Californian (born in Hollywood, CA in 1955) I’ve deep down felt that I was not only an American by birth but also a citizen in spirit of Mexico. California was theirs before it was unilaterally seized in the American empire fever of the Mexican-American War of the 1840s. It was good to fly into Mexico City overnight and be in the vibe and heart of Mexico in the wee morning hours of 12 January. That morning, looking beyond the wall-sized window of my magnificent 17th floor suite in swank Hotel W, mind and heart tried to imagine the Mexico of earlier times hidden beyond the veil of overpopulation, congestion and pall of smog that reduced visibility to a mere few miles. There would be no perchance to imagine views of a sprawling plateau of the Aztecs at a airy thin altitude of 7,300 ft. (2,240 meters) surrounded by mountains and picturesque volcanoes, such as 17,800 foot (5,426 m.) Popocatepetl. My lungs and throat, already constricted by an oncoming head cold now seized, sucked hard and sighed thin, smoggy air in disappointment.

At breakfast I met my American, History Channel publicist for the event, Rosemary Ravinal (A&E Ole Networks) from Miami and our Mexican hosts Daniel Garcia and Esteban Beulo of Beuló PR & Communications for breakfast and a round of Hotel W huevos rancheros. In my case, the “W” stands for Wow! I finished the huevos and could tell my hosts that now this Gringo from El Norte can say he’s had REAL Mexican food and not that oversized, over-cheesy-entombed, love-handle bun-busting, lard dripping Godzilla sized dollops we call “Mexican” food in the United States. Real Mexican food his handed to you in modest palm-full servings with a sprinkling of cheese that even this Vegan who eats eggs can enjoy. American Mexican food going for the big and loud flavors misses the subtleties in texture and tastes inherent in authentic Mexican fare.

Rosemary, Daniel and Esteban in our first actual meeting beyond the electronic remoteness of fax, email, phone and blackberry, planned the schedule of events for this day and the news conference for the next. They showed me the special room for the conference, which at the time was bare and uninteresting. Boy! Was I in for a surprise the next morning of the conference when Daniel and Esteban’s PR team performed their magic! On the first day, Rosemary devised a plan to mix tourism with work and through the magic of her blackberry. We hired a car to tour the city. I did my first interview (to Sao Paulo, Brazil) standing on a street in the old federal district of Coyoacán. The title comes from the Nahuatl Coyohuacan meaning, “place where they have coyotes.” The first Spanish conquerors of the Aztec empire built the earliest part of the colonial Mexico City there. Nostradamus was still a teenage student of Avignon University when Hernán Cortés and his lieutenants built their sprawling mansions where coyotes once forlicked nearly five centuries ago.

Beauty is where you look for it in the third largest and certainly the highest in altitude megalopolis in the world with 22 million people crammed and coughing under fowl fumes and ramshackle storefronts and crumbling apartments obscured behind a blight of huge billboards.

Mexico City has my sympathies. I am the son of another generally ugly sprawling metropolis, Los Angeles. There is beauty there if you know where to find it. Coyoacán is Mexico City at its most beautiful and oldest colonial charm. Yet, I get ahead of myself. Before Rosemary and I wound through crowded streets to get there, Juan, our chaffeur and tour guide took us to see the rock outcropping known in the Aztec Nahautl language as “Grasshopper Hill” (from the Nahautl Chapul-grasshopper, tepec-hill). Juan, a knowledgeable and grand old gentleman, said the Aztecs had a love for eating roasted grasshoppers. Soon the Chapul disappeared down Nahautl exulting mouths and in their place on the hill, they constructed a large temple in their honor.

After the Spanish came the temple monument was pulled down and its foundation used to raise Chapultepec Castle, the site of one of the last battles of the Mexican-American War. When we approached it, the very spot where our car got stuck before a red light in traffic happened to be the point where the American Nathaniel Currier had composed his tinted lithograph (c. 1847) of the then Mexican Military Academy with flagpole running up the US flag after American forces had charged up into the castle. There they clashed with six teenage Mexican cadets making their last stand in the tower. They are known in Mexico as Los Niños Héroes (the child heroes). The last boy warrior took down the Mexican flag, wrapped it around his body and jumped from the tower so the Americans running up the stairway tumbling over the bodies of his companions couldn’t capture it. It is said the American commander, Winfield Scott, saluted the flag wrapped corpse as he rode past to occupy Mexico City.

Later, Chapultepec Castle became the palace residence of Mexican presidents and foreign usurpers, such as Archduke Maximilian of Austria and his fetching wife Princess Charlotte/Carlotta (played famously going mad by Betty Davis in the movies). The Mexican people overthrew these puppets of French Napoleon III and his Mexican monarchists allies in 1867. Chapultepec’s new tenant then became President Benito Juárez, the Abraham Lincon of Mexico. The turreted castle much redesigned by Maximilian radiates old world charm above the basalt brick foundation and parapets dipping down into an oasis of forested parkland — the realm of big eared squirrels, cockerels and parrots whose calls remind me of the parks of Pune, India, where I spent many years with my meditation teacher, Osho. Pune and Mexico City happen to be at nearly the same subtropical latitude.

Next stop after grasshopper hill, some coyote magic to be had where the coyotes once roamed. In part two of this three-part series, I’ll write about my pilgrimage to the house of one of the best coyote spirits of them all.

Earthquakes 2010 Accelerate

In Predictions for 2010, I documented on 1 November 2009 all of my predictons for the coming year. The seismic quakes both earthy and political, the sudden and historic flooding in California in the last few weeks warrants I share with you the following prediction logged back on 1 November for the new year:

The years 2010 through 2011 will see a spike in climate change never before experienced. There will be stronger earthquakes, typhoons, tornadoes and hurricanes, droughts and floods will make all that happened in the 2009 and its far more devastating predecessor, 2008, look tame in comparison. (Predictions for 2010, Chapter 15)

Many of you have written to me about the crescendo of earthquakes hitting the Caribbean region since the first temblor on 12 January stamped out 200,000 lives and counting in Haiti. Now an unnerving string of 5 and 6 point Richter Scale shocks — some of which are not near Haiti itself — visits this heretofore seismically serene and passive area almost daily.

It inspired a reader named Kurtis to log in the commentary box for Nostradamus Predictions, Haiti—1 the following question/comment:

[Are you] keeping track that a 5.0 or 6.0 earthquake has hit almost everyday this week in different countries almost like tic tac toe and what do you think of this? It really feels like any day now there’s another Haiti coming.

HOGUE ANSWER:
Prepare for one of the most significant string of natural disasters packed into one 12-month period in living memory. The world responds to the ending time cycles of many forecast prophetic ages. The year 2012 is only the American Idol darling of the popular media judges. Populist projections of Mayan Prophecy, often overlook in the flash and spaz of doomsday’s fad passing favorite, the mistranslated, misunderstood, sexed up façade of what is merely the 5,000-year Long Count cycle ending and restarting again in the Ancient Mayan Calendar on 21 December 2012.

You don’t have to wait for 2012, ladies and gentlemen. All the blackberry votes for your favorite doomsday date will not give it more talent to fulfill your fears and axis shifting Tilt-alations. We have been in the travail of dying-rebirthing ages since 2008 and you can expect things to ramp up in revolutions from the heavens’ climate to the earth’s roll over and stir the salt waters of vast oceans and your momma’s placenta.

Welcome to the first year of a new wild card decade in prophecy. Existence wants to shake us up on all levels of life with earthquakes in Haiti, political earthquakes in runoff elections in Massachusetts. Be prepared, Obama Nation, to Oboomah one day, Obomb-ah the next. GOPeak today and GOPlummit in mid-term. Watch the two-party duopoly in America come down like a Presidential Palace in Porte-au-Prince in this coming decade as they play a fraud on the voters pretending to shed the duopoly labels and play independent.

We are entering new times when you will see the world change before your first cup of Joe at breakfast. Get used to it. Shake and roll with it. Learn to celebrate its challenges and change its inclinations to make a better destiny for your personal life, your community life, and your relationship with the world around you, by becoming a witnessing world within-you.
