The Future of Thanksgiving: Right Selfishness

Some anniversaries are coming on Thanksgiving Day. November 26 (on Indian Time) is the first anniversary of India’s version of a 9/11 (what Indians call 26/11) terrorist attack when a commando team of jihadists blasted and shot their way through Mumbai’s financial district, Victoria Station, the Oberoi and Taj Mahal International hotels. I give thanks this day that the terrorists’ aim was foiled. India did not go to nuclear war with Pakistan. (See Mumbai Terrorist Attack.)

This is the 389th anniversary of a mythology-myth-holiday when those mistaken as “Indians” (Native Americans) shared food with English Pilgrim settlers before the latter wiped them out in the ensuing years. (See Real Thanksgiving Turkey.)

Give or take where you were on either side of the International Dateline, the 26-27 of November marked the passing of American mystic and teacher, Adi Da. (See Adi Da.)

On this Thanksgiving Day, I want to share a sense of gratefulness better understood by a more enlightened human race coming in the future.

I thank a reader named “Julie” for inspiring the following unorthodox take on Thanksgiving future-framed.

She asked a question about globalism that inspired an unexpected answer about right selfishness. This concept may not be understood today, but right selfishness is a virtue people of a new humanity will value once the aberrant era of human-kid becomes matured human-kind.

I could say the kiddy stuff will end in a few hundred years. A new and mature humanity at that time will not live in the past, or be too interested in time beyond its mere utilitarian usefulness for clocks and time-space folding the galactic.

Homo Novus will be free of time-mind-egoic constraints. If such a timeless people are to be born, then how can there be a gulf of time of hundreds of years? How can there be a separation of time at all? If they are born, they are already living here and now. You are here right now. The new humanity is born from becoming your rightful self.

Julie asked me the following question that inspired my oracle soar from its peripheral concerns into a completely different theme. A right world can only be born from a state of right self.

JULIE:
Do you think this financial crisis is all engineered by the worldly powers-that-be to deplete the world’s economy and therefore bring in the new ‘one world’ currency in to control us even more until we all hit the brick wall?

HOGUE:
One world currency is coming in the next 36 years, as is a one-world government. Whether these will be good or evil depends on the consciousness of humanity rising, first one individual at a time, then individuals gathering in their aloneness together to forge a government where the blissfulness and intelligence of their inner being is reflected by their outer world. If enough individuals transform their consciousness, irregardless of what others are doing or not doing to transform their own consciousness, then, a shift in the destiny of this earth will incline towards a more life affirming future world society.

Civilization’s hoped for new direction is not as important as your individual transformation this present moment. Remember, Gautama Siddartha did not change his society, but his full self-remembering of his birthright — the birthright of all people actually to be a Buddha, (an Awakened One) — changed his society. He brought more meditation into it. It was not his aim to change anything or anyone. Indeed his work on himself was the ultimate act of selfishness. He abandoned kingdom, family and responsibilities on a half-dozen year quest to know that which is a truth beyond the transient mortal life.

He found “IT”. It shined out of him — a catalyst to remind others of their lost legacy of light. He did not seek ten thousand disciples. They sought him. He did not desire this army of followers. He did not seek to help his planet or his culture, but all were helped in the wake of his ultimate quest for “right” selfishness.

If I do not know who I am in my innermost being, then how can there be any abiding good arising in my actions? The world is mostly full of good people. Why then is it a world of misery and madness with a few glimmers of love and joy? It seems that it is not enough to be virtuous and good. I suppose a good sleepwalker will fall in a ditch as much as an evil one.

Perhaps if one truly flowers into the full spectrum of divine revelation it makes all actions, right actions. That is why it is more imperative now than in Buddha’s time to find one’s inner being, unbury it from the garbage of borrowed thoughts and identities of our particular societal conditioning and arise in our own light. That is what all enlightened ones and many devotees attracted to their light did. Only this kind of selfishness finds the state of self-lessness.

The prophecies for a new Humanity coming, sees each of us taking that jump within, if we but do it. Now. Every “now.”

Nostradamus: A Life and Myth.

First, some quick replies to current events:

DOW JONES CLEARING 10,000 POINTS
The balloon is blown half way to popping.
Bear with this market rally. It is certainly lasting longer than I expected and now it triggers a new timeline. The Wall Street rally is now roughly regained half its losses from its highest numbers before the Great Recession plunge. An economic lobotomy can be pleasurable to the nutcase gone under the knife being severed from the pains of sanity.

The lobe that is being split from the mind of economic reality, the Wall Street fantasy casino cerebellum, is feeling a lot better as it is let loose from recession’s reality. I would say the balloon is half empty with fake value. Those breathing high on the blow of helium into the “whoopee” rubber meme-brain are the spawn of unregulated investment banking and Wall streaking Streeters celebrating last week’s milestone passage beyond 10,000 points. Their beautiful balloon is half full of their hot airs of hope. The economy is on a rally back to the future of the good old days when — as that druggy sixties song goes: Wouldn’t you like to ride my beautiful balloon?

The balloon is going to keep growin’ as the BS keeps blowin’ chipmunk talking crazy until the helium blather-bladder pops with one hell-ium of a bang in 2010. Who knows? The DOW-te-chah-ching might get up to its old 14,000 points of ballooning diameter before it bellies up into a little pin called the devaluation to the inflated US dollar.

My Prediction from a half-year ago still has Brass Tripod divination legs
Dear readers, let us not jump to prescient conclusions after reading predictions I posted back on 9 April 2009 about the national elections of Afghanistan met the judge of the August election day, see: Afghanistan prophecy.

The UN has filed their report and have exposed that one-in-five Afghani votes were fraudulently cast for Hamid Karzai. That means he did not win his election and either he will do nothing and hold onto power through the power of his corruption or undergo a run off election with Abdullah-Abdullah, as per the country’s constitution

This is what I predicted back on April 9:

“I do not foresee a good outcome here. Hamid Karzai could very well lose and in his place will be a weaker leader for sure, even one that is sympathetic to Islamic fundamentalism. More chaos will come to Afghanistan, and the little bouncing pebble of a plebian that might replace Karzai will form a coalition that will soon collapse and turn into a political avalanche that will roll towards Pakistan, undermining the foothold of Obama’s grand strategy to defeat the Taliban, restore security of Afghans, whilst rooting out the last cells of al-Qaeda.”

Simple Questions breed Fundamental Answers

On occasion, I get request for e-interviews from Middle and High School students from all over the world for their papers on Nostradamus. I wanted to share with you, and perhaps elaborate on, my answers to a seventh-grader named “Sam” for his project.

1.Do you believe that Nostradamus’s predictions have come true?

HOGUE
No. I don’t believe. I know they have. Some of them even in my lifetime. Probably the most striking of these was the subject for “An Eccentric Man for All Seasons” — my introduction to my Nostradamus biography. In it, I investigated what I believe is compelling evidence in Century 6 Quatrain 97 and Century 10 Quatrain 49 that Nostradamus foresaw al-Qaeda’s terror attack on the Two Towers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. In these two quatrains, he accurately plotted the latitude locale of the great new city (New York) of hollow mountains, their plunge into a boiling cauldron of debris clouds into a tub (the actual name given to the watertight, eight-story deep pit onto which the twin towers were built. He mentioned the importance of the Normans (a synecdoche code for France in the prophecies) trying to warn the Americans of the imminent attack, though it would be too late. It is a documented fact that French intelligence, the day before the attack, on September 10, where in touch with their opposites in the Pentagon trying to forewarn them al-Qaeda was about to strike

2.How did he even come up with these predictions?

HOGUE
Through going into a trance and conjuring beings from other planes who could show him the future. That’s the main way. However, if you really want to make this paper comprehensive then I suggest you ask your library for a copy of Nostradamus: A Life and Myth. All the details are there. Same with the accurate prophecies proving he could see the future. In essence, Nostradamus was a Theurgist. That is, he conjured or channeled spirits from mostly higher and sometimes astral planes of existence. I understand the TV shows like to show actors playing Nostradamus conjuring in his street clothes in his secret study glowering into bowls of water. Actually, he donned a white hooded robe and looked more like a wizard diviner from ancient Rome. Nostradamus did practice hydromancy (water gazing) but his main passion was customizing neo-Patonist magical traditions of ancient Egypt, Assyrian, Chaldonean with the Delphic and Brachidaeic traditions of Hellenistic Greece to see, hear and smell the future. You can read more about his practices in detail laid out in the following chapters of the above life biography. See Chapter Five in the subsections: Forbidden Ceremonies; and, The Prognosticator and all the subsections of Chapter Six. These are entitled: The Inner and Outer Watercourse Way; Omens and Nocturnal Vigils, The Apostle from Beaune; and, The Importance of Being Earnestly Obscure.

3.Why would someone want to predict the end of the world?

HOGUE
Everything that is born also dies. Even worlds and universes. It is the way of things. What has never been born in us never dies. When we are born, inside us is this knowing, then it gets educated out of us; or better, it is buried beyond recognition by borrowed identities and knowledge we find necessary to collect for life on this plane. Mystics say you can remember this “isness” beyond birth and death if you quietly look deep inside yourself beyond your thoughts and feelings. We never lose this THIS. Yet we do forget we have immortal presence and need to be reminded. Meditation is the way I remember it.

Nostradamus didn’t predict the end of the world any time soon. When it happens it sounds like he is writing about people living in the constellations of Aquarius and Cancer after the year 3797. This is the only time he describes places and locales in astrological terms. That is significant

4.Did he study the Mayan calendars?

HOGUE
No, he never did. In addition, he never said anything directly about what is understood to be the end of the Long Count of the Mayan Calendar coming on 21 December 2012. His astrological prophecies indicate that since 2001 and again in 2002, 2004 and February 2009 all the stuff people expect to happen in 2012, is actually happening right now. Great and revolutionary times are with us right now and will be especially intense before, during and long after 2012 has come and been forgotten. Times of upheaval, revolution and potential transcendence will be especially intense in the 2020s.

5.What is Armageddon?

HOGUE
A myth perpetuated by people who do not love this world and would like to see it destroyed. Priestly hierarchies for thousands of years perpetuating this doomsday mafia of the soul, preach this ugly idea cloaked by golden, holy words. If enough of us listen to these disturbed people, we can make some or all of their doomsday battle happen. So, let’s ignore them and feel sorry for them.

7.Is there an antichrist?

Yes, but he is not a personality. It is “personality” itself. We all have been trained to wear personalities over our true selves. Then we are trained to believe we are these masks. Every word is born in its own virgin story. Later on the true essence of words get corrupted with lesser meanings. Take for instance the word personality. It originally came from the Latin persona. It means mask. Most of us today presume that having personality is an attribute, not knowing that the word is synonymous with being a fake or a false face, a person of pretence.

9/11 and Nostradamus, Eight Years Later

I wrote the following passage in the introduction of my biography on Nostradamus published in 2003. The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Great and terrible moments in history ever bring back to life the heated debate about Nostradamus and his prophecies. What I say here is not only important to contemplate when regarding the terrible events taking place exactly eight years ago, but also these reflections, I would hope, shine a beacon of warning to those who would now project some Mayan Calendar doomsday link to Nostradamus’ prophecies for 21 December 2012, when the purported Mayan Calendar Long Count comes to an end bringing the end of the world. Hardly!

When we, and the controversy of Nostradamus, entered a new millennium, many interpreters and dilettantes of Nostradamus mistakenly believed his prophecies foretold the end of the world–a strangely popular but patently unqualified myth, since Nostradamus had dated the end of the world 1,797 years ahead in the year 3797. Nevertheless, a peaceful turning of New Year’s Day 2000 exposed Nostradamus in the minds of many believers and skeptics as a prophetic failure and charlatan. Then on 11 September 2001, the debate about this man and myth came back before global scrutiny. No sooner had the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed into billowing, apocalyptic clouds of debris, than Reuters News Agency broadcast across the planet a prophecy attributed to Nostradamus about “hollow mountains” falling in the “City of York.” The lines of the purported prophecy–much like what we know about the man Nostradamus–were a blend of myth and fact. Fake lines like “the city of York” drew people in, yet these were sewn together with stolen lines of two actual Nostradamus prophecies–the same prophecies that for decades many interpreters, including this author, believed forecast a future nuclear or terrorist attack on New York’s lower Manhattan financial district.

A prophetic hoax about an attack on the “City of York” rode on the back of these real quatrain (four-line) prophecies about what many believe is an attack on New York:

At forty-five degrees latitude, the sky will burn,
Fire approaches the great new city.
Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up,
When they want verification from the Normans [the French].

Garden of the world near the new city,
In the path of the hollow mountains:
It will be seized and plunged into a boiling cauldron,
Drinking by force the waters poisoned by sulfur.

When you have two prescient-sounding yet general provocations that include images like “fire approaching” a “new city” at “forty-five degrees latitude” in the “path” of “hollow mountains” near a “garden of the word,” the hackles can rise–especially if you apply present-day facts to conveniently join together the dots of a 450-year-old prophetic rant to see what you want to see. Does one brush it all off as a coincidence that the city of “new” York is near latitude 45 degrees, or that the first Boeing 757 hijacked by terrorists cut into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in “a huge, scattered flame” at a 45-degree angle? Is it just the law of chance fooling a prophetically sympathetic mind when the second hijacked airliner passed over New Jersey (also known as the “Garden” state) and swerved at high speed toward the South Tower of the “world” Trade center building exactly over the “Path” subway tunnel before slamming into the second man-made peak of “hollow mountains”? And when Nostradamus describes his vision of “hollow mountains” being “seized and plunged” into a “boiling cauldron,” are we conned yet again by a new generation of sycophants tagging events of their time on to cryptic ravings; or is it more than a coincidence that each tower as it fell looked as if it were seized by the hand of an invisible force and plunged into the boiling cauldron of its own debris cloud? Are the “Normans” some retroactive allusion to the people of Normandy, or is this, as Nostradamian scholars believe, a code name for the French, whose intelligence agents on 10 September were indeed frantically warning their opposites in Washington D.C. that a terrorist attack on America was imminent?

Do we have a 16th-century charlatan catching us in our projections when the multiple meanings of Renaissance French can satisfy what we want to see? The word Nostradamus uses for “cauldron” is cuue (spelled cuve in Modern French). It can mean a number of things beyond “cauldron” such as “tank” or “tub.” Is the skeptic right when he brushes off any application of this word to the fall of the twin towers? Is the skeptic right to suggest waggishly that we might as well say Nostradamus is predicting some future disaster in a jacuzzi; or, is it not a little disturbing to one’s flippant reason to discover that the World Trade Center was built on a huge, rectangular cement box of watertight floor and walls known as “the tub”?

Mumbai 9-11: Part One

The Tale of Two Nuclear Crises: Past and Future

History repeats itself with fatal intent in terrorist attacks on Mumbai last week. I fear they are strategically aimed to accomplish what was tried nearly seven years ago but failed only by the grace of a momentary pause of human reflection before pushing the button of nuclear war.

On 13 December 2001, five al-Qaeda backed jihadists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist groups operating from mountain bases in the Pakistani-held part of Kashmir, infiltrated India and stormed it’s parliament building compound in New Delhi. Their goal was a suicide mission to decapitate the Indian government in enfilade of AK-47 bullets and by blasts of suicide body bombs that would enrage India enough to start a nuclear war with Pakistan.

Indian security forces checked their charge at Parliament’s threshold, killing all five terrorists. Five policemen, a Parliament security guard, and a gardener were also killed, and 18 others injured. No parliamentarian was killed, however, the damage was done to tenuous Indo-Pakistani relations. Few in the West who at that time, reeled from 9/11 al-Qaeda terrorist strikes on the US just three months earlier, understood or even cared to understand how far more dangerous were the consequences of this terror attack on India. It was clear to me, at least, having spent much time in and out of South Asia since 1980 that Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad were trying to goad India into a border standoff with Pakistan — both being nuclear powers. Their aim was part of Usama bin Laden’s grand strategy to destabilize the region with an Indo-Pakistani military crisis that might lead to a nuclear war. Millions in Pakistan would be sacrificed for global Jihad. Dozens of millions of non-Muslim Indians would be killed as well. Terrorist organizations in the western Pakistani mountains and in Kashmir, up-wind of the fallout and devastated cities would be free to flourish and metastasize in the post-war chaos.

The attack of five terrorists on Indian Parliament was far more serious than any hijacked jet taking down the World Trade Center or crashing into the Western wall of the Pentagon in Washington DC.

The Indo-Pakistani standoff from December 2001 to June 2002 remains at the time of this writing the most potentially dangerous military crisis of this troubled opening decade of the 21st century. Indeed, it remains the closest humanity came since the Cuban Missile Crisis to suffering a nuclear war. The human masses on both sides worked up to a feverish nationalistic state were keen for it. Vast demonstrations in Indian and Pakistani cities lobbied their legislators hard for a nuclear edged stab at the other irritant. Only the “nay” vote of the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee prevented a nuclear punitive strike during the final weeks of the South Indian dry season. India’s military leadership pushed hard for a decision before the Monsoon rains came. Flooded mountain passes would inhibit a full-scale conventional invasion of Pakistani held parts of Kashmir after Indian jets unloaded the atom bombs and a few dozen Agni missiles bearing nuclear warheads fell on Pakistani cities and military bases. Tempers run hot in the 40-degrees Celsius dog days of June before bracing Monsoonal rains cool passions as well as temperatures.

Dial destiny forward. Here we are again, potentially a few weeks or months from a new terrorist triggered nuclear crisis.

On the night of 26 November 2008, well-armed and well-trained Islamic terrorists based in Pakistan infiltrate and strike several high-profile targets in Mumbai’s financial district. Explosions thudded along the Mazagaon docks where terrorist commandos in zodiac rafts disembarked from the hijacked fishing trawler Kuber. They had seized it in international waters after sailing out of Karachi, Pakistan, 38-hours earlier, in a smaller boat undetected by the Indian Navy. They killed the crew of four and forced the captain to set a course for Mumbai waters. They killed him too, once he brought the Kuber to anchor a few miles off Mumbai’s shoreline.

The terrorist commandos landed and fanned out through the streets. Two cut down Indian police, stealing their rover, launching into a spree of drive-by strafing of crowds in busy downtown Mumbai streets. In the late evening hours of 26 November 2008, gunmen sprayed bullets into stampeding crowds of thousands in the sprawling Shivaji Railway Terminus. The wounded brought to Cama Hospital were drilled again by bullets and grenade shrapnel. Mumbai’s downtown police headquarters was hit. Heavily armed terrorists broke into a Chabad house, a Jewish outreach center run by Chabad-Lubavitch orthodox Jews, shooting down a young rabbi and his wife along with five hostages. Bollywood Cinema crowds coming out of theaters were hit. Bullets and grenades sprayed the fallen dead with the food of life in popular Leopold’s cafe. The premier hotels of downtown where most western tourists and business people converge, the Oberoi and iconic Taj Mahal, were set ablaze, wherein terror stalked smoke filled halls and the dark warrens and rabbit hole rooms as hunters of jihad looked for their hiding prey.

The hell of Mumbai’s 9/11 attacks lasted the bulk of three days before Indian paramilitary and Indian Army commando Special Forces in what they would call Operation Black Tornado silenced the last terrorist. White and brown, Muslim or meditator had been coldly and indiscriminately slaughtered and wounded by the hundreds. The death toll is up to 188, with at least 33 foreign nationals and just under 300 seriously wounded or injured. Some of the dazed survivors I saw by chance on a BBC photo being gently ushered by police out of the smoking ruins of the Oberoi are personal friends of mine and fellow travelers on the path meditation.

I currently seek to know who else of my friends and acquaintances was there among the living or under the tarps for the dead.

One terrorist survived to tell his tale to Indian Intelligence Officers, and I dare say he’s using his words as the one weapon left remaining in his possession. His unsheathed and sharpened tongue readily willing to relay evidence of a Pakistani source of his attack could bring on a new military crisis between India and Pakistan. Not only were these men of Jihad well trained in weapons and commando-style operations in the Pakistani terror camps, but they were also trained to play a psych-war game, if surviving, explaining in detail to those in India, just how involved Pakistan was in their plans to hit Mumbai. Beware the tongue of terrorism for it will fan passions of Hindu fundamentalists on the streets and in Parliament to a new war fever pitch once again.

The interrogated has so far not hit his target. Both Pakistani and Indian military spokesmen officially deny seeing any troop reinforcements detected from their opposite along the Line of Control — the militarized no-man’s land dividing Indian-held from Pakistani-held disputed Kashmir. For now, the nuclear nationalism is on the rise only in the streets and not in the trenches along the mountainous Hindu Kush or in the parliaments of Islamabad and New Delhi.

Another scenario is looming. The Indian government demands Pakistan seek and destroy those terrorist camps at once and hand over to Indian justice a list of high-profile terrorist leaders it has incarcerated responsible for ordering previous attacks on Indian soil. If Pakistan does not comply the Indian government says it will “leave all options on the table” for a retaliatory response.

In Part Two of Mumbai 9/11, we will return to points I made in an article written on 31 December 2001 concerning the four Indo-Pakistani wars predicted by Mahatma Gandhi. There’s just one war left to fight. It could be coming soon. It is the one Gandhi feared would be the end of South Asia.
