i read with interest your thoughts on china and america, or what nyal ferguson calls chinamerica.

think your spot on about the 2020s being a dangerous period for mankind. the perfect storm will start brewing in the latter part of the next decade. in a modern monetary economy, money is limitless, but resources are finite given present technology.

china has a big problem. average income in america is $45,000 . average income in china is $2000. america consumes one quarter of global energy. for china with 1.3 billion people to go down the same energy path we will need 4 planets. it aint going to happen. we will have world war 3 before they get even half way there.

furthermore they are price takers not price makers. that is the british and american multi nationals got there first. they are 3rd cab off the rank.

they are toast is they dont embrace renewables.

it all went to hell when china last got involved in global trade under the british empire, well its involved again. question is will it go to hell again.

as you say time is cyclical. well stay tuned for a possible 21st century version of the opium wars and the tai ping rebellion.

i will leave you with this terrifying prospect. during the american civil war we had the grey coats. well in the future china may have its own version of the gray coates lead by a young chinese general during a time of civil rebellion in china. lets hope it never comes to this

all the best mahaish

hi john,

again i read your posts with fascination.

regarding the term "indian" which one would think is mis applied to north and south american indians. well as in all things the past may guide us to tantalising possibilities. it would do us well to examine the history and exploits of the ramanakas of india to examine where they may have ended up in their travels many thousands of years ago. the term american indian may not be the mistake we think it is. the connection between the indians of america and the indians of india may be stronger than we think.
