Dear Friends,
Today on the eve of the summer solstice the Solar Maximum continues unabated. The astronomers had predicted that February would see the unusually powerful plague of solar flares settle down once the magnetic field of the sun’s poles made their regular 11-year axis shift. That was over four months ago. The sun’s feverish sunspot and solar flare activity continue exhaling magnetic storms against Earth’s invisible girdle of magnetic fields, disturbing weather patterns and the power grid. At night, the sun continues to be a dragon breathing a breath of plasma fires over Earth’s polar skies.
Thus we enter a summer solstice that may have some cosmic significance. Thursday, 21 June 2001, is the longest day of the year. On that day astronomers anticipate a pox of a near record number of sun spots upon the sun’s surface. The summer solstice will also experience a solar eclipse and the appearance of that favorite omen of doomsayers — the passage of a luminous comet called Linear C/2001 A2. The solstice also sees Mars (the astrological harbinger of war, droughts and new beginnings) making its closest pass to Earth in a quarter century.
A number of you have been writing to me lately asking for some specific references to predictions addressed on other web sites. Claims have appeared on internet that tell us the solar flares, the Mars pass-by and the comet are events foreseen in ancient Egyptian, Dogon, Sumerian, and Tibetan Scriptures foretelling anything from an increase of violent weather and earthquakes to the end of the world. Unfortunately, the web sites in question have not quoted any direct source and thus are colored with the stroke of the spurious brush.
I will now give you the sources that I have uncovered and reported seven years before in my book The Millennium Book of Prophecy. [pages 29-30 in the print-only version; page 25 in the deluxe illustrated version]:
“[Cycles of Time: the Great Pyramid.] According to Masoudi, a medieval Copitic historian, the Great Pyramid of Giza was built by King Surid to preseve the spriitual and mathematical knowledge of Egypt in a giant stone scripture that would weather not only the coming great flood but a future world conflagration as well. Esoteric scholars claim that the pyramid chronicles life from the time of Adam and Eve to the year 2001, when the world, as we are told by Surid’s dream interpreters, will be destroyed by fire coming fromt he constellation of Leo.
“[Cycles of Time: Babylon.] Berosus, the second-century B.C. Chaldean astronomer, consigns us to Satan’s space odyssey when the current sidereal precession of equinoxes draws to a close by 2001. He sees all terrestrial life and limb consumed by fire during a planetary alignment in July of that year. The fire will be followed by a great flood in October when, by his calculation, the same planets are conjoined in Capricorn.”
Here are the astrological facts about this “alignment.” Mars and Pluto will be in conjunction with a near conjunction of the Moon in Sagittarius in early July. However this conjunction is a bit iffy because the Egyptian priest interpreters of their Pharaoh’s were clueless of the existence of Pluto at that time, nor would they be aware of the Neptune/Uranus conjunction in Aquarius coming later in the month of July. They may have been aware of the Mars/Earth alignment, although this happens in June — not July – Julian and Gregorian calendar calculations notwithstanding.
There are a few planets paying a call to the chatty — if not fiery — constellation of Gemini in July. Around 16-18 July, Gemini enjoys the conjunction of Mercury and Jupiter within its gathering of twins outlined in stars. Saturn and the Moon will also be there but they have no specific conjunction with Mercury and Jupiter. Astrologically speaking, we have to say sorry to Surid’s soothsayers. There are no indications at least from the stars of a fiery catastrophe falling upon us from the constellation of Leo in July. Leo has no planetary aspects in July.
Even if I grant Berosus his goof in the month of these events, I personally think this Chaldean star gazer (brought to our attention through the surviving writings of the ancient Roman orator, Cicero) puts too much faith in the pyrotechnical and global death dealing potentials of the conjunctions of either Mars/Earth in Sag., or Mercury/Jupiter in Gemini.
Berosus does have a friend in Dr. Nostradamus though. The 16th-century astrologer may have also believed in the theme of a July conflagration followed by an October deluge when he wrote the following passage in 1557 for his Epistle to King Henry II [please note that I have inserted my running interpretation within the following quotation]:
“[after a long and rambling dissertation on the coming of the antichrist from Central Asia or the Near East, Nostradamus adds] And this will be preceded by a solar eclipse more obscure and more dark and mysterious, than any since the creation of the world except for the death and passion of Jesus Christ from that time until now, [Note: this is believed to be the Solar eclipse seen across Europe and Asia Minor back on August 11, 1999].
“And, there shall be in the month of October some great movement and transference of the globe and it will be such that one will think that the Earth has lost its natural movement, and that it will be plunged into the abyss of perpetual darkness; there will be initial omens in the spring, and extraordinary changes in rapid succession thereafter, reversals of kingdoms and mighty earthquakes, with the increase of the new Babylon [Iraq?]…”
I cannot rule out Nostradamus clouding his own vision with millennial expectations. Certainly nothing happened of this magnitude after the solar eclipse across Europe that would end the world. There were significant earthquakes over areas to which the moon’s shadow passed that August: Greece and Turkey suffered catastrophic and frequent earthquakes a few days after the celestial event. In August 1999, the people of Gujurat enjoyed the passing of the Moon’s shadow over their Western Indian state. In early 2001 that same beshadowed land suffered one of the most devastating earthquakes in modern history.
I do not believe that the world will end from fires in the sky in July because of solar flares, Martian conjunctions with the Earth, and what not; nor will a global deluge put said fires out in October. It is my belief, from studying earth changes prophecies for over 30 years, that seers such as Nostradamus, Surid’s dream interpreters, and Berosus the Chaldrean exaggerate. They may also misinterpret what they see coming from events set so far off in the future. These events may appear to them as backed up and condensed together as one nasty catastrophe, rather than being seen in their plodding sequence.
The world will not end this solstice, the next solstice or in a thousand, thousand summer solstices to come.
However…
I do predict that these signs in the sky denote either by coincidence or by some unknown cosmic design, the coming increase in violent storms and earthquakes for the solstice and beyond.* We are now in the 30-year roller coaster ride I have been predicting for many years. Each year will see history become more and more intense. Each year will see our fossilized traditions and habitual solutions to our problems strain and crack because they do not suit these new and revolutionary times. There will not be a fire devouring the earth all at once, but there is a fire called “Global Warming” that has us under a slow burn. There will not be a global flood in October, but the oceans ARE rising because the ice shelves are melting in the poles, and the glaciers are melting in our mountains. October will not see the sudden undermining of civilization warned by Nostradamus. That may take 20 years.
If in 20 years we do not change ourselves and our automatic habits, these things will come to pass. The future is more lazy in its advent than the impatience of prophets and their readers can accept.
*UPDATE 30 June 2001: A major quake rocked southern Peru less than 48 hours after the passing of the Summer solstice. It had a magnitude of 8.1, killing up to 56 with hundreds still missing. Relief workers and the government estimate the region suffered at least 20,000 buildings destroyed, rendering over 100,000 people homeless.
On the third day after the summer solstice a series of devastating earthquakes shook Mt. Mayon, in the central Philippines. The eruption blasted clouds of ash more than nine miles into the air and shot red-hot boulders 2,000 feet above the heavily populated farmlands. Currently over 41,000 people have fled their homes for makeshift emergency shelters. Bulges disfiguring the once perfect volcanic cone may indicate the mountain will soon send a devastating lateral explosion in the coming few weeks (similar to that which mutilated Mt. St. Helens in the USA in 1980).
